View Full Version : Spanglish Main Movie Scenarist Error

Hi everyone I am having trouble with Spanglish that I just picked up a couple days ago. I've already encoded the extras seperately and those compiled fine. I'm trying to import the main movie that I encoded now and Scenarist just crashes. I get that stupid screen, "Scenarist has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." It seems the import fails on different parts because I've tried it over and over again and it fails in different places. I've tried to disable the import of subtitles because it froze on there a couple times and it still crashes. I don't know if this matters but I've upgraded to SP2 a couple days ago. I did successfully compile the extras fine after installing SP2. Anyone have suggestions as to why this is happening? Thanks

A total crash can often be caused by linking to an asset that does not exist. Can you provide the scp file?

Here's the scp file once it's approved to upload

Eyes`only had the same problem last week. I don't know if he solved it yet.

IIRC there was also a problem that some pgcs had different audio streams. I don't know if that's on the main movie though. (maybe you can also paste some info from the ifo here)

Here's a picture from DIF4U on the main movie...It doesn't seem that anything should be a problem, there's no vobid's in the main movie and I only kept the english subtitles and the 6 channel english audio stream. The only thing I can think of is that I did demux the 2 channel audio stream during the DIF4U stage, but then I took it out of the VTS 7 folder because the bitrate for the movie was low...so I'm guessing ScenAid should have dummied that audio stream:

what version of scenarist are you using?

Angelus
16th April 2005, 16:12
Scenarist 2.7

That first chapter looks very suspicious. Must be some form of structure protection. Did dvdecrypter detect anything?

Angelus
16th April 2005, 17:08
Yeah Spanglish is another one of those structure protection discs. DVDDecryptor says there are 4 areas marked as suspect. In ScenAid I get the following warning when it scans:

Scanning Demux directory D:\DVD\Spanglish\VTS07\ for VTS07
* Valid Demux directory (IFO and AVS Found)
* Opening IFO And building layout
! Abnormal Cell Found (0 frames long - PGC1 Cell1)
! Abnormal Cell Found (0 frames long - PGC1 Cell2)
! Abnormal Cell Found (0 frames long - PGC1 Cell3)
! Abnormal Cell Found (0 frames long - PGC1 Cell4)
! Abnormal Cell Found (0 frames long - PGC1 Cell5)
! Abnormal Cell Found (0 frames long - PGC1 Cell6)

But it seems like the demuxed m2v file from dif4u got rid of those abnormal frames at the beginning of the movie (when I play it, it starts right to the movie rather). It also seems vts 12 & 13 arent referenced in the video_ts IFO, PCGEdit complains about that when I open up the dvd in there.

Angelus
20th April 2005, 16:26
I'm not sure if this is normal or not but the ScenAid log had a bunch of these in it relating to the subs:

Scene Not Allocated (Asset is too Short) Skipping BMP
-- Final SubStart/SubEnd/Scenstart/ScenEnd : 931/1006/-1/0
--Processing VTS_07_VSUB_P1A1-00-WL-English_0002_v002_c002.bmp

Perhaps this is what is causing Scenarist to freeze? I have no clue as to what else it could be...

D3s7
20th April 2005, 17:58
this movie is on my netflix list and should be arriving in a day or so...

The movie has arccos protection which no doubt is part of the issue....

I would just author it manually. Seems easy enough

Angelus
20th April 2005, 19:42
Ok maybe I'll try to author it manually...hopefully it shouldn't be too hard because it's only the main movie with just one audio stream. I guess I'll check out the DVD Authoring forum then ;)

D3s7
20th April 2005, 19:53
1) Demux by vobid
2) Delete the .avs for vobid 1
3) use scenaid

:)

those 0frame cells will prevent you from doing it easily by PGC... the layout WILL not and CANNOT be the same (you can't do 0frame cells in scenarist or any other app i know of)

Angelus
20th April 2005, 21:12
Thanks D3s7 I'll try that...I should have thought about doing that. The only way I'm not sure if it will work is because the resulting .m2v file ripped by DIF4U starts at the proper place; at the beginning of the movie. I think DvdDec. took out the structure protection when I wrote the iso image to the HD. But my logic probably doesn't make sense and I'll try that. Thanks

Edit: Well I made progress! I re-ripped the main movie by vobid and then compared that m2v file to the one i did the regular way and they were the same size...the audio was the same size too so I just copied the encoded m2v file into the directory that I demuxed by vobid, deleted the avs relating to the first vobid, and it imported fine and is compiling now fine! Weird but it worked :D

D3s7
21st April 2005, 01:08
not really.. PGC1 really = VOBID 2 (vobid 1 is 4 cells of nothing)

I must be missing something here.....

I tried 2 different ways......first i did what D3s7 said to do, with deleting the AVS and using scenaid. Got the following error. (in scenarist of course)

Error Language name not specified in the Language area of "VideoManager".

upon inspecting my SCP, i noticed it was in fact missing the Language.

so i changed:

Language Name= to this Language Name=English

and re-imported and tried to mux again. Got a different error..

Error There is no PGC in "VMG_English_1". A Language or Title must have at least one PGC.

so i figured i'd do what Angelus did (since i still had my original PGC project handy) and copied the same m2v (demuxed by PGC) over to my vobid project, although different in size, i figured it was worth it.

Now i get this error:

Error Vobu duration for 1th picture has 4 frames, it should be equal to or more than 12 frames
Error dvd_mux : DoMux Multiplexing Error
Error Terminated Multiplexing (spang_old_video-dummy_VTS07_P1_C1_Track_t.vob).
Error Number of frames in a VOBU is out of DVD spec. Please check MPEG video file or move CELL boundary.
Error Multiplex is failed.
Error Multiplexing failed, Track "dummy_VTS07_P1_C1_Track"

Anybody know what's going on ? I've searched this forum quite a bit without running into something simillar.

Any advice ? anybody other than D3s7 able to assist ?

Please let me know.............Thanks

D3s7
8th May 2005, 16:34
Jeez thanks....

that error means your that dummy asset is only 4 frames long in the track duration which is shorter then .4sec..

just go in and change it to 12 frames

I was getting the no language in the video manager error today, as well. Weirdly enough, what fixed it was to drag and select the "Not Specified" object under the Video Manager in the Scenario editor, and right click - Clear. That changed it from Not Specified to English.

I'm not sure why that worked.. I couldn't change it to English because it said there already was an English object?

Anyway - just wanted to share what I found, in case someone like me is browsing the forums.

[SLiM]D12

What i did was do exactly what D3s7 said to do (always works) and just change the duration of the dummy tracks to 12 frames and worked.

BTW D3s7, wasn't insulting you...was saying there's gotta be somebody else out there.......

[SLiM]D12
9th May 2005, 00:02
Well i spoke too soon. Got an error saying that my "ac3 was corrupt" so i did what i always do in this case and used ac3fix to fix it. Imported my new file and muxxed fine. Did my normal stuff afterwards..........and main movie is outta sync....great. Gotta figure it's something w/ the empty cells that throws it out of sync

suggestions ?

D3s7

if you enable the PGC and/or VOBID audio correction in scenaid, that will auto-fix crc errors while padding the file

Just an FYI

[SLiM]D12
9th May 2005, 01:06
I have it enabled, the file with the problem is in

/Mux_Dir/Scenaid/Dummy/VTS__07_V002-80-448K-[0ms]-ch6_fixed.AC3

i noticed it makes a new dir that way, but that's the file that didn't work..

D3s7
9th May 2005, 01:50
OOOH.. i forgot to note that.. thanks :)

wierd that file doesn't work...i'll double check that code...

[SLiM]D12
9th May 2005, 02:53
Ok so just for fooling around, i put the original AC3 file from DIF4U into my scenarist project.

/Mux_dir/VTS07/VTS__07_V002-80-448K-[0ms]-ch6.AC3

no errors from scenarist are reported and the mux goes fine, however during playback all is well up until 2:01:00, and at that point the audio suddenly drops to a silence for the remaining 10 mins of the movie.

/me shrugs

I'm getting very curious, but I don't think that this one is released here yet :(

[SLiM]D12

Yep just did.

So i went and fooled around a little more. I extracted the AC3 by vobid w/ DVDDEC by Stream Processing. The file was different size than the one from my mux dir and i tried with it. Same exact result, at 2:01:00 it goes silent from then on.

'lo mr d3s7,

been talking with [SLiM]D12 on irc and afetr a bit of fun and games, i got [SLiM]D12 to drop the audio track into scenarist manually and check its reported length - which came to : 2:10:58.

however when i got him to open up the script and and search for that audio stream, it showed:
Data End Time=02:01:05:03
File=F:\spanglish_vobid\ScenAid\Dummy\VTS__07_V002-80-448K-[0ms]-ch6_fixed.AC3

so we tried changing that end time to the actual end time and it seems to be working ... cross fingers :D

cheers
