Hi all, i'm the proud owner of a pioneer 108 (in black!) which has more than satisfied all my burning needs. However, i'm getting very slow rip speeds. I've checked DMA settings, and it's reading as Ultra DMA mode 4. I deleted the controller to let windows re-detect, my my PC didn't like that and wouldn't boot. I had to select "Last knoiwn good config." from the boot menu to get it booting.

Speeds involved are as follows, a file read from an original DVD, starts about 1.8x and slowly (very slowly) climbs to about 4x. But never higher. Right now, i'm making an image from a DVD-R and its at 28% reading at 2.2x.

I used to get better on my old 8x drive. Any help is uch appreciated.

Thanks!

If you're getting those slow speeds and your CPU isn't at 100%, it's probably not DMA.

Try looking for a rip-lock patched firmware at www.rpc1.org

thanks for the reply, but (don't ask me to explain this) i started ripping another DVD-R and hey presto, the speed was right up, max 12, average 9.3. I did 4 more discs and all ripped at good speed. I'll check the link out incase it happens again, but it all seems ok. Maybe my dvd-rw was threatened by my posting on the forums and decided to get its act together...
