I just upgraded from a 1700XP /w 512mb pc2100 to a 2600+ mobile overclocked to 2.6ghz /w 1gb pc3200 and noticed when I'm encoding the progress bar will go really slow then jump forward really fast a few percent. It's like something is holding it back. Could it have something to do with the amount of cache the processor has? Like maybe the cpu is really fast but the cache isn't enough to "keep the fire stoked?" If i could get it to go as fast a it does when it jumps forward it would encode really fast.
