Hi all sorry if this has already been covered I tried searching and come up with no luck

The thing is this I’ve made a DVD from a camcorder but the total comes to 13gb

How would I encode this in DVD-Rebuilder to fit on a DVD+R DL 8.5gb

In the REBUILDER.INI file's [Options] area, set:

TargetSectors=4520000

If you already have any of the other TargetSector variables set (like CCETargetSectors= ) -- make sure you remove them or set them as well, they can override the standard setting.

To clarify jdobbs post, your rebuilder.ini file should look like this:

[Options]
TargetSectors=4520000
Mode=1
OneClick=0
ReduceOpt=2
NoWarn=1
AdditionalOutput=1
LogFile=1
QuEncHQ=1
EncoderMinimized=1

Any Chance and option to encode to 8.5GB could be added to DVD RB Pro, without editting the .ini file? The cost of Dual layer DVD is getting lower and lower, so it will soon be price effective to use them, (he hopes).

I wouldn't count on the cost coming down much below $5 anytime soon. The sales have been very sluggish -- and lots of the low-end manufacturers are hanging on waiting to see where where HD is going.

hi i tryed what you said.
when it comes to rebuild i get all the way to %99 then i get an error

Error in updateIFO:VTS_FO VOBID:03/CELLID:05was not found in the VOB

and by the way the total output comes to 8.49gb is that right

The output sounds right, you may want to go a little smaller. Not sure about the error. That happens when when a cell is missing that is referenced in the IFO...

should i change TargetSectors=4520000 to
TargetSectors=4510000 would that be ok

jdobbs

That'll reduce it by about 20MB...

so it would be best to take off 100000 thats 200mb makes a total for the TargetSectors=4420000 would that be a safe bet in your case

common misconception that dual layer dvd's are twice the size

nero lists dvd5 as 4483Mb where as dvd9 is 8152Mb

working from the default value TargetSectors=2264000

2236400
------- X 8152 = 4066726
4483

rounded up to 4070000 for neatness should be about right for dvd9 as we already had factored in about twice the normal safety margin.

For anyone wondering why you need to encode to dvd9 for its a little project I decided to do.

The extended editions of lord of the rings, it annoys me that you have to swop dics in the middle of the film, and there is no way you can compress it to dvd5.

So I kept the subtitles and audio track i needed, and cut off the fan club member list after the end credits which uses up about 800Mb on the disc!. Seemlessly rejoined the film (none of this 2 vts carry on where it messes up the chapters and searching). For the first film I came out with about 8.56Gb which need to be compressed at 89.8% ratio to fit on the dvd9. I hope with a little testing by people of this figure (i'll update if its needs to be revised) that jdobbs will add the dvd9 target sectors as an option in rebuilder. I know there are not many instances where it is viable but it would stop threads like this one appearing lol
