There's an area-based deinterlace filter from Gunnar Thalin that works really well for me in VirtualDub. What does AutoGK use by default? DGBob or something? Is that similar?

AutoGK uses KernelDeint.

EDIT: Btw, DGBob() is a smart bobber. More info about it here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55598).
