dvd chapter titles, where from

dunno where to put it, so i try here

i got several dvds having no chapter titles and i want to get them somehow. (of course, the dvds are 'chaptered', i can switch between them fine, i mean here the titles of chapters, usually printed on the cover) is there any way of getting such kinda lists ?

just to avoid any confusion, all these dvds are official releases. don't even think of any 'paper-back' appended to some papers or journals, but hard-cover ones sold in shops. i can't get what they spare with not printing this info.

btw, does anyone know why isn't this info stored right on the dvd? do the specs make it impossible, or what ?

well, you can get the celltimes e.g. with ifoedit, but they don't necessarily correspond to chapter (each cell doesn't have to be a chapter),
but if you want to have the names of the chapters... i don't think there's no legitime way to ge them. for sure the DVD doesn't contain them. and i guess they can be copyrighted just like the actual content so you cannot just go and ask/dl them from somewhere.

yep ... i expected sg like that :( but it's so annoying. say, if i buy 'star wars trilogy' one by one i get this info but if i buy the special release (3in1) i don't. is there any logic behind :confused:

The DVD can contain text descriptions of every part of it. It just is not an easy feature to use in most authoring programs.

or do you mean, it's cheaper to release a dvd wout chapter titles than w/that ? i don't think it'd mean a significant spare w/respect to the licensing or copyrighting issues. the real difference here is the spare on printing. but how much would't be ? i guess negligable.

all in all, i think it's simply off-handing the customer considering them tasteless, undemanding bumpkins

surely if you navigate the disc in a DVD player you'll have chapter selection. if there's names at all, they'll be there. just write them down as you're browsing.

btw, most chapter names are bullcrap anyway, made up by the DVD producers, not the film's producers.

extras are just bitrate-wasters. most of the stuff that comes on these discs is totally not worth watching. one of my lecturers used to call it "shovelware". with more movies made with the DVD release in mind, directors are wanting to keep more and more of the crap they shot that didn't get into the final cut... of course at the detriment of the movie people are buying in the first place.

hehe... ranting is cool. another thing: what the hell is up with 5.1 channel english dubs for anime that was originally just 2.0? is anyone going to be impressed by the occasional bit of reverb in the rear channels? pretty much all of the new ADV stuff has 5.1 english and 2.0 jap now, but i never actually watch with english dub unless i can't look at the screen.
