Stereo to 6 channel

I read a post (but now can't find it) about converting stereo to 6 channel (as in front left right, centre, rear left right and bass).
Okay using GoldWave I can create 6 seperate wav files for each channel.
How do I use these tracks as the audio for a DVD.

Questions:

1. Can I somehow merge these into an MPEG3 six channel track and merge this MPEG3 into an AVI so that standard DVD creation software will use this.

2. Do I have to somehow change the audio information for actual DVD files on hard drive before burning.

3. Do I need extra audio info so that a standard DVD player (without 6 channel output) can decode and produce a simple stereo signal.

1. Assuming you have six wav files, you can use BeSweet using .lst-file input to encode to AC3, which is the audio format you probably want to use if your target is DVD. Note that for DVD your audio must have a 48 khz sampling rate. If the source doesn't, you can resample while encoding with besweet. See the BeSweet FAQ for more information on the process, and you may want to use BeLight as a GUI. If you wish you can then mux this into AVI using VirtualDubMod or AVImux-GUI. However your DVD authoring software should support importing the .AC3 file without using an AVI container.

I have created 6 wavs, managed to convert to 6 channel AC3, not recognised by my DVD creator software. Have also acheived 1 six channel wav file, invalid format for ULead DVD Movie Creator.
When playing these six channel files (within BeSweet and Windows Audio) there is just white noise and the track duration is shown as 10% of what it should be.
Is there DVD creation software available which allows me to incorporate seperate audio wavs and specify which channel they should output to?
I assume that my sound card can give me a representation of what I have converted instead of white noise as it plays commercial 5.1 audio DVDs properly (such as with PowerDVD).:(
