Thanks for all your fine work and explanations on eqm_v3lr etc. I'm looking at efficient ways to repack Digital TV (SD or PD) recordings. The XviDs are to be specifically created for a Neuston MC-500 network media player. I've tried the Neuston forums, but sweet zippo from them :(
Anyway, the input data is in what DigiTV calls DVD format, probably means MPEG-2 PS. PAL. 720x576 PAR 1.422 DAR 1.77 Interlaced.
From what I've read this would appear to be very close to PAL-DVD format .
So...I'm not really trying to squash down to fit a given nbr of CDs as the Xvids are files streamed off a hard drive to the MC-500.
With MP3-128 sound, it would seem that a total bitrate of about 1,000 gives quite good results using the eqm_v3lr matrix. Would this be in line with what you'd expect..or should I be going for a different matrix and/or rate?
I've noticed that the MC-500 seems to skip frames unless you enable a packed bitstream. Does packing the stream lead you to suggest I should be trying another matrix?
Also I currently use VirtualdubMPEG2, resized via inbuilt filter to 576x324 Lanc, 2 pass, AS @ L5, ( B-VOPS 2 / 1.5 / 1.00) with [ Adap Q, Interlaced Enc, QPEL, GMC] all off, if that helps. QPEL and GMC are not supported under the MC-500. If any of these should be changed, pls let me know.
