Hi,
I think this doesn't fit anywhere, so I try here :)
Forgive me for my blatant assumption (according to the 5.1 threads in the auido encoding forum) anyone else here also uses Cubase SX 2+ or at "least" Steinberg's more adequante video NLE, Nuendo, in order to get some help/hint/tip on the following annoyance:
I was doing some audio post production and re-syncs for an AVI (3gig) I loaded into Cubase, and the preview window worked prefectly fine: I could scrub, "jog shuttle" - no prob.
For the records:
the AVI was a small-size "proxy" version created with VDub/AviSynth from the actual DVD-size MPEG movie; Huffyuv'ed, 320x288 (hence I tried the VfW alternative);
also tried another PicVideo MJPEG, and uncompressed source after that: no go. Both codecs work fine in VirtualDub.
For whatever reason, the "DirectShow preview" stopped working after stupid me switch temporarily between the other two options "Video for Windows preview" and "QuickTime preview" just to see what happens - well, now I know ;)
Well, actually I witnessed a huge memory consumption after working a while in Cubase scrubbing around with the DS window open and Windows yelled at me it adjusted my page file, so I wanted to find out if the VfW preview would probably be less demanding: 'cos there was no preview at all, I swtched back to DS and got the same black window.
Of course I have rebooted several times since.
To see if the DS filter or even the AVI was broken, I pend the file in GraphEdit and it played like a charme. Any other (DS related) video app works fine, except my little audio editor :(
I'm not really interested in registering for an account at the Steinberg forums just for this unique problem, as I have never had any probs before or questions regarding Cubase at all since v1.0 on my Atari :) So please don't point me there.
Anyone having an idea what I could look for to get video preview back?
It's hard to sync sonic events to pictures you can't see ;)
Thanks for any hints.
Have fun,
CirTap
