Why was Netterpaladin's thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=92221

closed so abruptly?

Does someone not want people to find out that a product labeled as "freeware" is really adware? Immediately close any discussion of that fact?

Gawd, another one?

There was a thread miles long where this issue was beaten to death. Just search for it. The reason why the thread you mentioned was closed was because there were similar threads opened before. You are not helping the situation by opening your own.

Bottomline: This is how it's gonna be. Take it or leave it. len0x (or anyone else) don't care less whether you backup your DVDs or not.

Hopefully a Mod will close this too.

It was closed coz it starts to be boring to see 10000 different threads about the same thing...

Oh, come on--you know very well that's not the reason it was closed! There are probably many topics that come up over and over and over. There were actually only a couple threads before about that topic, and they were also closed.

There are new people who come to the forum, who don't know that something was discussed before. In fact, I would think that the vast majority of people who used AutoGK didn't know it had adware in it. (In fact, it was several versions after the adware inclusion started, before I discovered it.)

Of course, you are not forced to read any particular thread. So if a thread is posted on a topic you already read about, that you do not wish to read more on, don't read it! Then you won't be bored!

Anyone who read those other threads would find out that you could uninstall the adware (without uninstalling AutoGK), by uninstalling DAE, and using a program one reader wrote, the DAERemove utility, you could remove every trace of it. I assume that every reader of those threads, including you, did that, uninstalled DAE. Well, adware doesn't bring in revenue, if everyone uninstalls it. So, it certainly is in the interest of the adware firm, that less people find out about it, and don't know of its existence. This is why such threads have been closed, not due to "boredom". Be honest about it. (You uninstalled DAE with every update, I assume, but you don't want others to find out about it? Hypocrisy?)

Actually though, I'm happy to say, it looks like LenOx might have been listening to the complaints about the adware. I just installed the newest beta 2.07 today, fully expecting to remove DAE afterwards as usual, but it didn't look like DAE was installed. There was only the GNU license agreement, not the other one from "responsetarget". And afterwards, I saw no "DAE" in add/remove programs. Unless the adware was made much more secretive, with no license agreement for it, and no trace of it in "add/remove programs" (I certainly hope that's not the case), it looks like the adware installation has been removed from AutoGK. (I would guess it probably didn't really bring in much revenue in any case, while fostering many complaints.) I'm glad it has been removed.

Thank you, LenOx, for the great program, and for removing the adware! :)

I wouldn't be happy about DAE not being included in 2.07 as this means that this version might as well be the last one for months! If development of AutoGK resumes then DAE will be back.

I have to quickly reopen this to make a brief statement

So if a thread is posted on a topic you already read about, that you do not wish to read more on, don't read it! That's now how this forum works. Rule 1 is here to keep this a high quality board without repetitive postings. We cannot force you to read and search, but once we can tell you haven't done your homework, rule 1 comes into play. This board wouldn't be what it is if we didn't help people to their luck ;)

So before you start with the conspiracy theories and start accusing people of hipocrasy, re-read the forum rules (especially rule 1 and rule 6).
