For months now I have been able to play DVD's off my harddrive and off a DVD insterted in either my Lite On drive or my NEC Drive (Both less then 2 months old). For DVD's off the harddrive, I usually use PowerDVD 5.0 (registered with CD Key) and for DVD's on either the NEC or Lite On drive I had no problem using either Media Player 10 or PowerDVD. All of a sudded a couple of days ago, nothing would play any longer...even the original disks in the drive. I had been installing / uninstalling a lot of software so I assumed I bothced something somewhere...I hadn't reloaded my OS (XP Pro w/ Service Pack 2...no other updates tho) so I decided to bite the bullet and do a fresh install of everything. Reformated the C drive and reinstalled a fresh copy of XP and SP2 along with all other programs...nothing was restored from backups etc.
Well...5 hours later I still am having the same problem. When I try and play a disk of the HD in PowerDVD or an original disc in either one of my cd drives using either Media Player 10 OR PowerDVD I get exactly the same error..."The Instruction at "0x7c9111de referenced memory at "0x6c65672". The memory could not be "read". " This was the same error I was getting before reformatting and reinstalling everything...it hangs either program and shuts it down. I have tried with multipe discs as well as files from the HD...regular AVI's play fine on eith program.
P.S. Just discovered that Nero Showtime (part of the Nero Express Ultra package) will play the DVD's fine...it is only PowerDVD and MediaPlayer 10 that are having the problem...same exact error.
Any idea what could be happening? The only new hardware I have installed since watching the last DVD's was a PCI USB 2.0 card and a Belkin external USB card reader (sd, cf etc.).
Thanks for any help!
