Hi there,
Long time since my last post.
I was using DVD Shrink + Titlesetblanker for my backups, but I'm tring to back-Up LOTR-FOTR extended, and there are not much things to remove, so I need a better quality encoder.
I tried DVD-RB a long time ago, and now I was reading that QuEnc is functioning much better.
Finally the question, what is the best encoder to use with DVD-RB?, I think CCE is still the most used, but is QuEnc a good alternative?, is DVD-RB functioning good with audio and subtitle tracks removal?
Thx,

LioCraft

Please observe Forum Rule 12: Do not ask what's best. Thank you.

And if I change the frase what is the best with, what is your experience with usin QuEnc?...I don't want to break rulz, just want a good back-up and the fewer mistakes possible.

The top of every thread has a link to the forum rules.

You might ask what encoders people have used and what are the pros and cons as they see them.

Let's see...

CCE - great quality -> fast -> NOT FREE (Basic = 58$ - limited to 2 passes)

QuEnq - Quality near CCE -> almost as fast as CCE -> FREE

HC Encoder - Quality very similar (if not equal) to CCE -> Slow -> FREE

ProCoder - great quality (specially and low bitrates) -> Slow -> NOT FREE (Works thought Robot1's EclPRO)

ReJig (transcoder) - Quality as good as any other transcoder (I use it when the level of compression is above 90% - Movie only) -> Very Fast -> FREE.

keep it UP

edit: i didn't tested all encoders (If I had the money and/or time to test all versions of CCE and ProCoder... I would be 2% happier :D) my oppinion is based on the other's oppinions gathered on this forum.

OK,
What encoders you people have used with DVD-RB and what are the pros and cons as you see them?.
I want to do a full back-up (keeping menus) of a very long movie, no extras, 4 x 2.0, 1 x DTS and 1 x 5.1 tracks to be removed (just keeping 5.1 eng track).....about 65% of compresion needed in DVD Shrink (or uncompresion...what ever). Quality is important, but just for a 29" common TV, nos a 50" plasma, and time is quite important.
According to your experience, what would be your enconder choise?

Thx for the time, and sorry for the first post.

Like Rockas said, CCE is great quality, fast...not free.(CCE Basic $58, CCE SP $1,950.00)

Very near to CCE quality and speed is QuEnc .59 beta 3. FREE

Very, Very, Very near to CCE quality(if not the same)but slow, HC Encoder. FREE

For me, I love CCE mix of quality and speed but FREE is FREE and both QuEnc and HC Encoder are great.

Right now I find myself doing most of my movie with HC Encoder. I like the free stuff, great great quality. Start it when I go to bed, wake up in the morning and my movie is done... ready to burn.
