View Full Version : Pulldown with QuEnc?

Is there a way to do PullDown with QuEnc? If not, it would be a very useful feature to add for a feature rev. At a minimum, batch-run DGPullDown on the MPEG after QuEnc finishes its thing.
Here's my use case: write Avisynth script to IVTC and resize HDTV material to DVD dimensions; serve into QuEnc for MPEG2 generation; output should be DVD-ready. Problem: MPEG2 output right now is 24 fps, and I need it at 29.97fps. My current approach is to run DGPullDown after QuEnc finishes, but it would be very nice if this happened automagically ;).
@Nic: if QuEnc doesn't do this already (I've only tried the interlaced option which doesn't do it), you might want to talk to Don Craft about porting his code into your app.

A reply from Nic the man via pm:
The next version of QuEnc may well have pulldown added. I recently found a patch for libavcodec which adds pulldown support.
This would be a very exciting addition for me!

you may pulldown with Donald's DGPulldown what is great.

Only on elementary streams (video only). I would like to use QuEnc to crank out my *final* DVD-compliant MPEG2 file, with video and audio. I've been able to do this with great success, but my result is 24fps, which means another re-encode to get it to 30fps. Right now, I'm letting my DVD authoring software do this, but based on past experience with re-encoding of video files, I don't really trust it to do a quality job. If QuEnc adds pulldown capability, it will move from killer-app to king-app in my book.

I'd vote for this too. It'd be great to go from 24 fps AVS w/ audio > pulldown'ed MPG with AC3 ready for dvd authoring with only QuEnc.

Thinking further in that way if it is possible for QuEnc to adopt dgpulldown and to make even PAL-NTSC or NTSC-Pal conversions automatic:D

not quite sure what you mean by this. From everything I've read the PAL-NTSC and NTSC-PAL conversions require .avs scripting... Though I do see that DGPulldown provides a "25 --> 29.97" option.

And 23.976->25 also.

23.976->25
Don't see that option in the version I downloaded a week ago. Unless you mean "Custom".

Yes, I see, it is not in the presets. I don't know why, for me it would be logical to have it there. But maybe the original thread about the creation of the dgpulldown can answer this question.
