A question about capture cards

In the guide here at Doom9 you write the following:

If you have a VIVO card (graphics card with TV-in so you can use your VCR as a tuner), you should try that first. But, we advice you to buy a separate capture card (which is cheap compared to a VIVO card). Using a TV-tuner card is also good.

And in the FAQ you write:

You can either use the video input of your TV- Capture device or the video input of your Graphics card (e.g. ASUS Deluxe or ATI All in Wonder serie). Using the video input of your GFX card will result in a better signal.

As I understand it, I have three ways of tranfering the VHS signal to my computer, which are:

1. A separate (from the graphic card) capture card.
2. A graphic card with a signal in.
3. A TV-tuner (called a TV-capture device in the FAQ).

With the best solution at the top, which I'm going for.

Which capture card would you recommend? And do all the cables I need come with the card, or which cables do I need to buy? And for the best result the VHS-recorder should have a S-VHS output, right?

If you want to save time, get a hardware encoder/tuner such as the Hauppauge PVR-250 (NOT the MCE version!).
For the best quality, get a TBC, such as the Canopus ADVC-110.
The Canopus comes with all the cables you need, providing you already have a firewire port on your computer.
If you get the PVR, you'll only need a composite (RCA) to S-Video adapter cable (about $5), or you can choose to capture from Composite to composite, as the card accepts both.
Composite to composite requires one cable for video, and a composite to stereo mini adapter cable for audio.

You do not need a VCR that has S-Video out.

TV card is also separate capture card, and all have video in - composite & S-Video.
Fact is that TV cards have usually little better quality of capture via video in inputs than integrated graphic (VIVO) cards, but it doesn't mean that any TV card is better than any VIVO card.
