What codecs do you recommend?

For viewing an XVid with AC3 audio on a MCE?

ie, if you render with GSpot, what codecs should I be using?

Right now I'm seeing stuttering and I'm not sure if it's because of codecs or the system.

All I have installed is ffdshow, XviD, AC3 filters, OGG and Lame, and everything plays perfectly within Windows Media Player 6.4.
