128-bit WEP cracked in 3 minutes

At a recent ISSA (Information Systems Security Association) meeting in Los Angeles, a team of FBI agents demonstrated current WEP-cracking techniques and broke a 128 bit WEP key in about three minutes. Special Agent Geoff Bickers ran the Powerpoint presentation and explained the attack, while the other agents (who did not want to be named or photographed) did the dirty work of sniffing wireless traffic and breaking the WEP keys.

the thing is , you need a high level of usage on the network to actually sniff enough keys to start the cracking. So for a average hme user it wont be a problem (it would take years if not longer). but big corperations beware, silicon vally + laptop = :devil: ;) .

rather use WPA2 (the fancy name for 802.11i.. you need new hardware, but at least it's reasonably safe)

I bet the Feds have devices to pickup the EMI from wired solutions also and capture the raw unencrypted traffic.

Of course, you can VPN all your traffic over your internal network, whether it be wired or wireless..
