How to get good quality scrolling credits

I'm moving my VHS tapes -> miniDV -> Avisynth -> Tmpgenc -> DVD. I want to increase the readibility of the end credits - usually white scrolling text on a black background. (Most credit threads here seem only to be interested in either trimming or reducing the bitrate, but in these convert tapes, I want to see this info)

I'm using Convolution3D for my main filtering but believe spatio-temporal filtering isn't good for scrolling credits. The main section is interleaved, but is progressive better for the credits section if the destination is DVD?

I encode my Mpeg2 files as either 1/2 D1 (352x576) or full D1 (720x576) PAL.

So what are the best filtering/interleaving settings for scrolling credits?

One thing is for sure: GIGO. You can't have your DVD output looking better than your VHS original.

The concert DVD I've made from the VHS tape looks goods. Convolution3D has reduced noise and shimmer considerably. (I used Convolution3D(0, 16, 64, 8, 32, 7, 0) which is 1/2 of the values specified for the vhsBQ preset except for the influence value which I made 7 instead of vhsBQ's 10. I used these values because the tape was purchased a week ago and only played once so it was in good condition.)

I did not use spatio-temporal filtering for the credits.
