I've done a lot of reading and I seem to get me more comfused the more I read.

I recently got HDTV cable and want to capture the HD programming including the AC3 audio and put it on DVD.

I have cablevision service with a scientific atlanta 4200hdtv box. I understand I need a dvb-c capture card but from what I've read some will work and some won't. Can any one point me in the right direction as to what card to get and what if any other hardware or software I need.

You do not need a dvb-c card. North American cable does not broadcast using DVB, they use QAM (usually 64 or 128). Whether or not you'll be able to record anything is shot in the dark. You could try looking for information about other people that have tried to do what you want ... see what their results were. In short, if it's encrypted you're out of luck. As for what hardware you need. You need a QAM capable capture card. The two that I know of are the Fusion3 QAM-T and the MYHD MDP-130. I have the first one and aside from some software issues it works quite well. The MDP-130 I know nothing about, it is a new card. If it is anything like their older model, the MDP-120, then it should be a good card minus, again, a few software issues.
