Avi Mpeg

What is the best program for converting avi and mpeg files so i can put them on a disk and watch them in my dvd player. I don't know if this is the right forum to ask this question and if not i appologise. Thanks

IMO their is no one best program. The way I (used to) do it.
1. convert the avi or non compliant mpeg 1/2 to a compliant dvd mpeg 1/2 with Mainconcept (or your favorite mpeg encoder.
2. Author with your favorite authoring program (I use Tmpgenc dvd author or one of the Ulead products).
3. Burn with your favorite burning programs (I use Nero 6).
I say used to because I now have 2 Philips dvp642 players that so far have played anything I put in them. No more long conversions except for home videos etc. to share with family/friends. :)

I assume you're a bit of a newbie, then you should read the guide about aspect ratios (http://www.doom9.org/aspectratios.htm) on DVD so you get it right.
