I'm looking to purchase a new dual-layer DVDRW. I know I'm not supposed to ask for specific hardware recommendations, but I will anyway. One of the one's I looked at was the NEC ND-3520A, but I'm concerned about the rip-lock feature. Does this only slow down ripping DVDs, or will it actually prevent backing up a DVD?

If anyone has a link to a good site that rates burners, it would be appreciated. TIA

These guys are very good for hardware.

In the NEC forum you can find out about alternatives.

Right now it seems the 3520 is not a good choice. It is actually inferior to the 3500 in write quality.

I have a thread going on the NEC forum about this very topic.
