Definition Of Multi Angle?

Excuse my ignorance, but why are DVDs recorded with multiple angles? As far as I can gather, each language track has it's own angle?? For example, one of the latest DVDs I have worked with has three angles after it is on my hard drive and there are three languages supported by this. Would I miss something in the video if I encoded/recorded just one of those angles with it's corresponding audio track and not the others? Thanks.

Multiple angles can be used for all sorts of purposes, including added experience through a technique called Seamless Branching (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/Seamless_Branching.htm). But the most common reason discussed by members of the forum for commercial DVDs seems to be for titles/credits. Each language may have its own angle for end credits. Or, there may be multiple PGCs that point to the same cells, for effectively the same purpose as multiple angles.

What I think multiple angles mean is presennce of various versions of a same sequence in time. Like in some movies the hero may die in the end, and also there can be another version in the same disc in which the hero comes round and lives. The viewer can choose which ending (s)he prefers. That is called multiple angles. It may perhaps also mean when a scene is shot from different sets of viewpoints and the viewer can watch the tiger jumping on the hero from different angles.

Am I right in my understanding?
