View Full Version : .81 Main movie and Menu only question

NtegrA
5th April 2005, 01:29
I am currently attempting to use the new "Main movie and Menu" feature. Actually I am thinking that something has gone wrong as I can not get to the process (can't focus on dvdrebuilder) and the prepare phase has been running for way over an hour now.

My question is.. If I am blanking all the extras, should dvdrebuilder still go through the process of "processing" each VTS (creating .D2v's and such)? Also, my first attempt, I tried "no compression" and it seemed to just copy over everything to my output directory, so I cancelled that one.

I am going to cancel this try and try again, but if you might tell me if I am doing something wrong? are there options that may affect this feature? such as steal space from extras...etc..

Maybe I'm just too impatient.

UPDATE:

OK, details:

DVD is Angel Heart (Special Edition) R1
Movie and Menu Only (blank all extras)
No Compression (100% video)
Stripping DD 2.0 audio (keeping DD 5.1 and Commentary)

status output follows:

no compression does not reencode
it simply copies.

you need to turn this off

Here is JDobbs' reply in the thread "Blank Video Files":

"If blanking alone is enough to make the DVD fit on a dvd-5, then use DVD-RB's blanking with the "No Compression" mode. Right now you have to keep the menus... that may change."

but to your response, wouldn't DVD-RB JUST copy the movie and menus? I don't need the movie re-encoded.

sorry missed that

-- Feature before/after: 3,665 / 3,665 Kbs

and

Original is 7.78GB - Output is 7.09GB

make me think that it isnt blanking at all.

Can you post the sizes (original) of each vts?

JDobbs, any ideas? I thought maybe upgrading to .82 would help, but i am getting the same result. The entire DVD is being copied just a bit smaller than the original.

What info do I need to get to you if above is not enough?

jptheripper
7th April 2005, 01:02
to me it seems obvious that the only thing being changed is stripping the 2.0 audio (hence the small size change).

my guess is there is a conflict between 100% (no compression) keeping all files, and movie and menu trying to remove them, and 100% is overriding.

jdobbs definately needs to look at this

I am trying at the moment with .82....

This time, I left in the audio track, and still the same thing.

Is it possible that noone else is running into this other than me?
Could it be the DVD itself? I guess I should try with a different movie.....

If blanking alone is enough to make the DVD fit on a dvd-5, then use DVD-RB's blanking with the "No Compression" mode. Right now you have to keep the menus... that may change.
I shouldn't have said that -- I wasn't thinking correctly. The blanking isn't doing anything when you select "no compression" (same for ReJig). I'll take a look at it and see what I can do for v0.83.

ok, so I selected CCE Mode / One Click Mode / One Pass VBR, and now my output is 2.38GB. :p (But it DID blank the extras as wanted)

It seems that the movie is being adjusted to space before extras are blanked instead of after...

How big is the VIDEO_TS directory? That percentage represents the reduction before any blanking or slideshow setting is taken into account. That's because there is always the possibility that you might change it again using the editor before encoding. I'll modify it in v0.83 so it doesn't show when one of those options are used.

As a matter of fact, though, your post left off the most important part of the LOG. The LOG will also show the average bitrate for the feature before and after the blanking... the "before" bitrate is what you have gotten with the percentage reduction shown.

Why would you stop the cut-and-paste at the point just before the effect of blanking information is shown?

It would be the next two lines after where you stopped:

Would you like the rest of the log as well?

The VIDEO_TS directory from source is 7.78GB (see above, way above). My resulting VIDEO_TS is 2.38 (after blanking).

If I didn't have to re-encode, the "movie" VTS is 4.18GB (reason I had selected "No Compression" on earlier attempts).

Just as an FYI,

I redid the encode 1 last time (actually twice) using 4 pass (3) mode instead of OPV using CCE, and the result was spot on. The movie did end up being about 50MB bigger than the original.

I am now going to try with .83.

Such a great product. Thanks for all the hard work you do.

EDIT:

Just thinking about what I did with this encode, and of course the movie could be bigger seeing that I stripped one of the audio tracks (DUH).

Went back to this after just updating to .87a

All I can say is it's time to give another donation :D

This is exactly what I was looking for in the way of just the movie and no re-encode. Also love the way the VTS list changes depending on mode chosen.

Excellent work J (hmmm.. no smileys blowing kisses???)
