Something I've wondered about for a while... I've always used libavcodec (Mplayer, VLC, ffdshow) based solutions for watching DVD's on my pc - but some claim that other decoders (Cyberlink, Intervideo, Nvidia) provide better quality...I certainly cant see it.

If they are all decoding the same thing - how is this possible?
Does it come down to deinterlacing and/or ivtc capabilities? Which dont affect my PAL DVD movies anyway. Or general post-processing?

Thanks :)

well there might be some post processing differences, but personally, i haven't noticed any significant differences. i've used VLC, PowerDVD and WinDVD and i'd say they all have their (dis)advantages...

anyway, i think this is, like most other such things a decision of personal preference!
