Hello,

What are people's experiences with Shrink or RB's quality when converting Episode DVD's DVD9>DVD5?

I have always thought the quality would be a huge sacrifice (since I cant cut extras) but now I am not so sure. I'm thinking of archiving whole Stargate series and 24.

Also how do these *coders perform in Anime and more importantly Episodes like The Simpsons. I always thought mpeg2 was poor for cartoon's edges.

If someone could shed some light it would be appreciated! Thanks.

The same as with regular DVDs: as long as the original quality is good you can apply a fair amount of compression and still get acceptable results.

I'd use 4 eps of 40+ mins max, usually I use 3 only. On Simpsons you could use the same, that is 6-8 eps. It also depens on your equipment.

Why can't you remove the exras? I always re-author a certain number of eps and the either use PgcEdit to apply the Remote Buttons macro to make the title button jump betweens eps or use my own guide to importing selfmade menus (http://www.dvdshrink.info/chetwood/guides.php#PgcEdit_menuimport). You should try some eps on RW and see how it turns out.

I think he meant to say there are no extras to remove?

ive been happy with the results ive gotten from cce-based solutions on episodic dvds.

Sorry I did mean to say theres no extras..

Thanks for that quick reply. I will see how CCE goes, I guess that was the only real answer I could have gotten anyway :)

you can use rb opt to set the cce setting for animation.
or use a martix that works good on animations.
or undot deen filters.

I've done the full stargate and 24 series with dvd rebuilder and the results were excellent. On some episodic series such as star trek there were initially some problems with RB and cce 2.6x and above but these were recently fixed in the RB 081pr release. Most of the R1 TV series are interlaced materal so you will want to use CCE 2.67 or better to take advantage of its ability to handle interlaced material. Versions of cce below 2.67 did a poor job with interlaced projects.

I have done every popular TV series available and I found RB and cce 2.67 gave me the best results.

I did the entire series of the family guy with the above setup and it came out perfect. It had smooth motion no artifacts and no interlaced sawtooth lines (edges) as is so common with this type of project.

Thanks.

Is there a definitive resource about interlacing?

I understand what it is but I dont understand how it affects encoding/what to do if it is interlaced, etc.
