View Full Version : where are the B-frames?

Maybe I'm misreading the log files, but the frame sizes indicate auto GKnot isnt using b-frames. I'm using Xvid which came with it. I reset to defaults before doing any encoding. Xvid seems to reset to simple @ level0 after I have encoded a movie.

Can anyone tell me how to make AutoGKnot use b-frames?

Post your log file please.

If the compressibility test gave a whopping high value, AutoGK will switch off b-frames to avoid undersizing - which is probably what happened in your case.

If this is your log file, then definitely B-frames were used. Whatever made you think otherwise? Can you explain what you meant by "but the frame sizes indicate auto GKnot isnt using b-frames"?

Open the .avi in GSpot v2.52 and see if indicates 'BVOP'.

So that's it? Just I and P all the way? B never comes up anywhere in the stats file? That's weird.

I can't understand why something pretty basic as opening an .avi in GSpot won't work for you. Anyways, do this then - Rar the log file (since it is only textual content it should compress well from ~5 MB to ~1 MB) and upload it to http://www.bighosting.net/. I need to see the whole log file.

It does seem as if it doesn't use any B-frames, but I am at a loss to explain why (It doesn't show in the log that it switched it off even). I will just wait along with you for someone more experienced to come by and shed some light on this.:)

Thanks for trying.

It isnt anything to do with ESS compatability is it?

I'd make sure you're using correctly installed approved version of XviD...

drcl
1st April 2005, 22:07
I'm just using whatever you supplied. I believe its XviD-1.0.3-20122004 Final Release. I had a later beta installed previously but I uninstalled that before installing AutoGKnot. I then reset the codec to defaults. I'm using AGK1.95 btw.

Even though I'm having this problem i still got a decent result from AutoGKnot, with a Divx3 like look, which I actually like.

Just like to say it's a great piece of software which really should be on the shelves.

len0x

If you open XviD codec settings right after encoding is finished - do you see b-frames checked or not?

drcl
1st April 2005, 22:54
I re-installed everything once more and from the virtual dub video graph I can see that B-frames are being used this time. No idea what I was doing wrong.

@Lennox

The codec was being set to simple at level 0 so b-frames are not available.

unskinnyboy

Immediately after the encode, the profile should have been at AS @ L5, how did it end up at S @ L0?

drcl
2nd April 2005, 01:37
i did the encode twice. each time i reset to defaults. i dont know how or why it was set to that profile.

sorry len0x for calling you lennox
