about matrices

i've just seen some matrix for mpeg2 which looks like this:

Intra:

just curious, could anyone help me understand why the non-intra contains no values and what effect it would have on this mpg actually?

since this question is more about mpeg encoding than specifically svcd im going to move it to the other mpeg encoders forum.. alot of matrix enthusiasts hang there.

looks illegal to me. the first value in the non-intra is meant to be 16. all others should be that or higher. i would definatly not use that matrix.

out of curiosity where did you see it ?

i've seen it in an svcd. of course it has been encoded by someone else using dvd2svcd w/cce, a low vbr bitrate (min: 300, avg: 1702, max: 2450) and 4-passes. the svcd looks ok when playing on a standalone, but on the pc it looks kinda bad with ghosts etc.

maybe they've used this non-intra because of the low bitrate?

meanwhile i did some encoding myself and the funny thing is, i came out with the same non-intra matrix. i've been using the latest dvd2svcd. my guess is this is a bug of either dvd2svcd or bbmpeg (whatever creates the intra & non-intra in this prog). hope this will get fixed soon..

oh, and speaking of bugs. would be nice if the 'couldn't find "*.ecl"' bug get fixed too.
