PAL -> NTSC DVD with TMPGEnc, cannot seek in file

Hi,
I'm in the middle of trying to convert a 16:9 anamorphic, progressive PAL DVD to a progressive NTSC DVD. I've had lots of problems and one of them is with TMPGEnc. I use DVD2Avi to create a .d2v from the VOB and then load that .d2v in TMPGEnc. When converting the video I have selected what I think are the correct options, in source video: non-interlaced, 16:9 PAL, "Do not frame rate conversion" and in video stream: 720x480, 16:9, 23.976, CBR, NTSC, non-interlace.

After the conversion is done the resulting video stream seems OK and looks very good, however here lies the problem: during playback I cannot seek in the converted .m2v file. When I try to move the position slider the picture will sometimes become complete garbage but most often it will just freeze the picture and after a couple of seconds move the slider to the end and stop playback. This poses problems after creating the DVD with IfoEdit, as jumping between chapters will make the DVD stall and crash the software.

Any help with TMPGEnc would be appreciated, or is there some other encoder where it's equally easy to do progressive PAL -> progressive NTSC conversion?

Come on, TMPG is one of the most popular mpeg2 encoders around and no one knows why the heck it's impossible to fast forward or seek in the finished movie? I've tried muxing the original file back and it works, so it's definitely something with TMPG, and I've tried different settings, NTSC, PAL, interlaced/progressive, VBR but the results are always the same.

You could try telling us what software you are trying to seek with. You could also post a link to an M2V file that shows the problem.

Multiplex the m2v with audio file and the seeking is back.

The thing is, it doesn't. Even when multiplexing to a finished DVD it doesn't work, but only for TMPGEnc-encoded m2vs. I gave up on it though and used CCE/HC/QuEnc instead.

This problem is due to TMPGEnc using it's own internal reader for m2v files, if you use the one here: www.marumo.ne.jp/mpeg2 then you can seek back and forth, at least I could.
