im using autogk, and under advanced settings, i set it to use VBR mp3 @ 128kbps. my resulting mp3 file is then 448kbps. is it creating a multichannel (more than 2) mp3? i didn't even know this was possible, but if that is what it is doing, is there a way to stop that? i will primarily be watching these movies on my laptop w/ headphones, so i have no need for anything more than stereo, but would rather not use just mono. i want stereo. is there a way i can force stereo?

if im wrong in guessing about the multichannel thing, why am i getting a 448kbps mp3 file? i only need/want ~128kbps...

thanks guys

You sure?

What you saw is 448kbps AC3 audio stream and not 448kbps MP3. And I am pretty sure you had chosen either 'Auto' or 'AC3' as audio and not MP3 (by mistake). Open the .avi in GSpot and you can see what I am saying.

And if MP3 is chosen, it is always Stereo by default unless you force Mono. 'MP3 Surround' is not implemented in AutoGK yet.:D

Reencode the DVD with these things in mind and you should be OK.

ahhh, gotcha. i bet your right. its still encoding now, but that would make sense. you see, the first time i tried encoding the movie, i left the audio output type on auto, and for output size, used a target quality. with the given target quality, apparently it assigned me ac3 audio (why on earth?). i didn't look at the output format though, i just assumed it was mp3 because i thought thats what auto would use, and saw that it was @ 448kbps, and thought it was some weird multichannel output.

so then, on my 2nd attempt, i set the audio output type to vbr mp3 @ 128kbps. but when the audio decoder/encoder component popped up, i saw 448kbps in the window, and assumed it was doing the same thing again...

the moral of the story is... don't make stupid assumptions. :)

thanks a million unskinnyboy
