Is there a tool just like Shrink that can open DVD folder, change extras/foreign menus to a still image, then save the DVD again without having to resave the entire dvd again or having to manually select output folder, delete original, etc..



Basically I just want a program to filter out the dvd "junk" in the least time as possible. if it is possible???

i will move this to the ifo/vob editors forum, as it appears that it has very litlle to do with the 'big 3' method (please correct me if i am wrong?), and that what you are looking for is something along the lines of vobblanker, pgcedit and the like.

Yes. There are many tools to do that.

VobBlanker: the more powerful tool to strip out unwanted stuff. It can replace a whole titleset, or selected single PGCs or single cells by a black frame. It will create a new black frame for every cell it replace. It can even replace a cell by another one, stored on disc.
It has also an option to convert animated menus to still frames menu, with or without audio, but this new feature is still somewhat experimental.

MenuShrink: A verry good tool to convert animated menus to stills, with or without audio. Verry simple to use, and, IMHO, more stable than VobBlanker for this usage. But it doesn't shrinh the title domains.

PgcEdit: You can blank out an entire titleset or menu domain. Everything in the domain will be replaced by a single still frame (VOB size: 10KB.) In the menu domain, it has also an option to completely remove the VOB file. Easy, and immediate: the VOB files do not need to be processed. To use, right click on any PGC in the domain you want to blank out, and select "Blank Out All PGCs in domain". Both VobBlanker and PgcEdit do have options to 'kill playback' of the blanked PGCs: the black frame will not be played anymore!

TitleSetBlanker: do the same as PgcEdit (except the option to totally remove the menu VOB and the 'kill playback' feature), but this software is now outdated.

DVDRemake or DVDRemake Pro: allow to blank out almost anything you want, but do not have the menu to still feature, and is not free.

It seems that this thread is related to something i'm wondering about.

I already use Vobblanker to delete some extras. I'm very pleased with this method but sometimes, this is not enough to put the movie on a DVD-R so I keep on with a "Big3" step with my Vobblanker result vobs. I never had problems with this method but I was wondering if there was something risky by proceedding like that.
Maybe I'm not conscious of something that could be annoying?

@JasonFly: Dependant upon requirements I frequently use a combination of one or more of:
DVDDecrypter - rip from disc, remove PUO & CSS
PgcEdit - to trace DVD, kill playback (warnings etc), and edit menu's
VobBlanker - to blank cells (warnings, certain extras etc), and convert motion to still menu's (can save major space)
DVDShrink - to strip audio / subtitle streams & shrink down to fit DVD-5 if necessary
PgcEdit - to ensure 32Kb gap between IFO/BUP, & create ISO using mkisofs
DVDDecrypter - to burn ISO
I haven't had any problems with the many DVD's I've backed up using the above, even when for example motion to still menu's in VobBlanker is described as "experimental". Have had some questions from time to time when breaking (for me personally) new ground, but all the people around on the "IFO/VOB Editors" area are terrific when it comes to helping out.

I've never ventured down the path of the "Big3" or similar as I get the results I want, along with the necessary level of control/flexibility with the above. Personally, while there may be the possibility as I understand it of slightly better picture quality by demuxing/decoding & then recoding/muxing video etc manually, it just seems all a bit too complicated and time consuming (I've only got a PIII 450) for what amounts to an imperceptible difference.

Exactly what i do, and every time I end up with a DVD that looks good (85%+ ratio) have a menu (unless it's a ridiculous size) and have no warnings whatsoever when I play it.

With the exception of creating the iso at the end (I just burn the VOBs directly), I think this should be the route that 99% of newbies/general public should take, and should be more heavily documented...as in more full guides like 2Cools!

In fact I think I feel a "Wink" demo (google it) coming up if I get the time..
