How can I use xvid in 2 steps?

I have an uncompressed avi file and I'd like to compress into another smaller avi.I know how to encode with virtualdub, but with 1 pass. I don't know how to encode with 2 steps...:( So I select twopass 1-st pass and save avi file F7....and then select 2-nd pass and save another avi, or what? I am very shure that I'm wrong...I don't know how to do.Thanks in advance!

Select 2pass - first pass and save, once done select 2pass - second pass and save. Do not change settings between passes!

You can automate this procedure adding every step to the job list (there's a checkbox in the "save as" window), then hitting F4 and clicking on Start. You can also make PC to shutdown after 2pass are done.

F7 check (on save) "Don't run this job now..."
configure xvid for second pass
F7 check (on save) "Don't run this job now..."
hit F4

Another question: I don't understand what's the diffrence between H.263, MPEG and MPEG custom..And I see at Advanced options at quantization I, P and B frames what are those frames? I've seen in this forum discussion about diffrent settings on first pass and others to the second...I am very confuzed, many things have to be arranged but the goal is unique:To obtain same avi file with redused dimmensions...

so:2pass, GMC, Q-Pel and VHQ I don't know what are them, BItrate 850, H-263...defaults generaly...

I used 2 weeks ago autogordianknot to make a DVD RIP. The resulting avi file, xvid 2 pass bitrate `800 had a extremely high quality, aprox same as DVD! But if I try to encode independent the vob with virtual dub mod with same settings(xvid 2 pass bitrate `800 )the rezulting avi file has an image quality much lower instead the AKG result.So the conclusion is that I don't know how to configure the xvid settings....

First: read the sticky FAQ (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=16935)

GK usually filter/denoise through Avisynth, which lead to better compressibility->quality per given bitrate.

To achieve same result you have to use Avisynth too, either creating a script on your own or feeding to Vdub the one created by AGK.
