View Full Version : Convert DVD to MP2 - easy-to-use tool needed!

Hi all,

could anybody recommend a proggie or tool that can convert an entire DVD folder (VIDEO_TS) into an MP2 file so that I can then re-author it by adding chapters etc. I've tried TMPGenc but must admit I wasn't able to understand all the settings to be done. What I'm looking for should be able to do the job without asking me for output filesizes, framerates and the more and finally producing two files, one for video and one for sound, as TMPGenc does. I think it cannot be that difficult to convert DVDs to MP2s with exactly the same framerate, bitrate, sound and video in one and the same file. But which tool can I use to get the job done as easily as possible, without having to fear a loss of quality because of choosing wrong settings? Any recommendations are warmly welcome! Thanx in advance.

MP2 is MPEG-1 layer 2 audio.
It is included in the PAL DVD standard, so if you have a DVD with MP2 audio, you need to demux the VOB in order to get the audio. You can do that with DVD Decrypter Stream Processing, and TMPGEnc (File > MPEG Tools, Demultiplex).

If you mean MPEG2, not MP2, then you can still do it the same way as above, and also demultiplex the Video, and then use TMPGEnc (File > MPEG Tools, Multiplex) to multiplex M2V and MP2 or AC3 to a MPEG program file.

Try Vidomi - load your .vob(s), then under General Options check "Ignore all settings and use MPEG copy code," then click Start. Your output will be an MPEG-2, takes about a minute. There are no further settings and the video is not re-rendered so there's no loss of quality.

Hi all,

thanx for your hints. I've done some testing and found DVD Decrypter is best for my needs. Settings as follows: -> Enable Stream Processing -> Demux and I get the files I need for re-authoring. And the proggie is for free - :) !
