View Full Version : problem with ffdshow and overlay mixer
Hello,
I posted this in ffdshow dev thread, but it got burried without being noticed, so I hope noone will mind too bad that I repost it as separate thread..
I have some tough problems.. ever since version 200305XX or something like that, if I try to play file using ffdshow and output set to overlay mixer (using MPC in this case), all I get is gray screen. Now if I go to video driver setup, and check the saturation slider, I see (attached pic). Why does ffdshow mess up my saturation slider, thus messing up whole video? :(

What videocard are you using ? Anyway be sure to install the latest official drivers for it... 71.84 as far as I know for yours one.
Im using 71.84 now, tried way back to 56.72, but that didnt help. The only way to make it work is to use pre 200305 ffdshow, and that's old..
does anyone have any other ideas?

Does this happen with ffdshow only? What about DivX or XviD decoder?
Also did you try VMR 7/9 instead of Overlay Mixer?
it happens with xvid aswell. happens with vmr7 (i guess because it picks up overlay in some cases), but not with vmr9..
guys, i still haven't been able to solve this problem, and im really out of ideas now - happens with xvid and ffdshow, happens with mpc versions way back to 2003.. what could cause it :(

I've gotten some weirdness from FFdshow when using my overlay mixer recently aswell, I usually just use VMR9 so its not a huge problem, my video card is a Radeon 9600 pro. My drivers are up to date, just thought I would mention that I have had some similar problems that seem to be FFdshow related, on my pc I just get a black screen when using the overlay mixer and the video players starts getting problems with fullscreen mode.
Recently it started to set saturation to 0% instead of that weird number, but that still messes it up! :(

Havent seen the saturation problem but I have seen almost like an interlaced effect when I go to fullscreen. VMR seems to work fine although it uses slightly more resources from the PC.
i hate those kind of quirks, were noone else ever had them, so you cant even hope for a fix (save for reinstalling windows, which gets somewhat dull if you have to do it each quarter)..

In which case Ghost (http://www.symantec.com/sabu/ghost/ghost_personal/features.html) is your friend! To re-ghost my rig (complete with all programs, drivers, custom setups etc) takes about 12 minutes :D
yeah, but you first have to make one good setup. before i even finish installing all my stuff i find out that somethings wrong, and cant already use it as base for future installations :(
if it helps any, it only happens with YV12/Y*/U* modes, works fine with RGB :/

definitly something fishy with your graphic card .... do you use the latest DirectX ? well, i don't know, perhaps you need DX9.c ?

Do you have Windows 2003? I have the exact problem. If you set your overlay to the default settings and enable it, you should be able to bypass this problem in overlay. (This is through FFDShow btw)
The issue with the vid card settings, looks like you have an nvidia card, will always be there until I find a solution to that .

I've got 0, and it looks fine to me.
Also from what I've been told this is an issue with the OS rather than FFDShow. So I don't quite think there's much that's going to change. I could be wrong... but eh.
