does 9 hours is a good/normal time for a 7.5gb disc , using dvdrebuilder ? this is the time that it took me to do all 3 process.
i dont know if it matter but i have a p4 3g 512ddr.
another thing i would like to know please is ,
till now i there werent any extras on the disc so i transcode all the disc , but in the future in order to save time how can i remove those extras because as my understanding i cant do it with dvdrebuilder. if u could post a link for a guide ill be grateful.
thanx

What encoder did you use?
If you want movie only you can use dvdshrink which is free. If you want menus without some extras, you can use clonedvd or dvdremake which are easy to use.

the time taken for the encode depends on many factors most importantly which encoder you used, how many passes and cpu speed.
It takes me just over 24hours to do a 7-pass encode with cce 2.67 on an athlon 1.4

im using cce sp 2.5.
i dont want to use dvdshrink or clonedvd because i think i getting some jumping , although it might be the burner which i just replaced and i didnt used dvdshrink since then.
anyway i did want to upgrade my burning method and im happy to use dvdrebuilder, i just need to know if i use cce 2.67 the speed will be better and if there is an option to remove extras but stil author the dvd with rebuilder.
as for my pc speed i already mentioned p4 3ghz with 512ddr .

cce 2.5 sp in OPV mode gives real time output. In other words, a 90 minute movie takes me 90 minutes to backup. I have a slower processor than yours to boot. If am going for pure quality, I use HC (a free encoder) in best or good mode which can take maybe four times longer than cce OPV. Certain situations call for certain actions. It all depends on what you are looking for. Therein lies the beauty of Rebuilder...you can CHOOSE exactly how you want your movie to be processed.
As far as extras and menus,etc...use VobBlanker. Excellent free tool. I use it to rip and preprocess all my backups.
Read up on this forum (and others) and you can figure everything out that you need to know to make perfect backups.

@fibola,
Something is terribly wrong. Your processor is way to fast to be taking that long. I'm on a slower computer and it only takes about 40-60 minutes for each pass + 20 minutes for PREPARE/REBUILD... so a two pass encode takes about 100-140 minutes with CCE 2.50.
You don't have the number of passes set to some really high value, do you?

This is a shot in the dark, but it's worth keeping an eye on for anyone with this kind of problem.
Some other process can be hogging the cpu. I've had a process for my creative soundcard go bananas when i'm running a encoder and use far too much cpu, thereby slowing down CCE considerably. It's called CTHELPER.EXE (check the comments (http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/cthelper.exe.html)). These days I just kill the process before running DVD-RB, problem fixed :) I've also seen another program shoot up in cpu usage for no reason after CCE was running.
It's a longshot but it only takes a glance in the task manager(? i'm not using english windows) to check if anything looks suspicious :)

Something I've seen is MPLAYER.EXE get stuck in memory after attempting to play MPEG-2 VOB files... it brings my computer to a crawl until I kill it.

where do i see the passes set ? is it in cce customized setting ?
if it is then the sets are : vbr_bias : 30 , quality prec : 20 , and VBR PASSES : 4 .

You'll get differing opinions on this, but I would recommend you set it to 2 for most movies and 3 for tougher ones (long movies or movies that have a lot of extras). But that still means you are taking a little over 2 hours per pass -- which seems high to me.

hi,
cool, this is my first post on this forum! youpiiii!I had to wait 5-7 days before posting.
I statred to use HC encoder , and it is great. on my M1.7 pentium, takes 8 hours for best quality.
after testing on my projector and 3x zoom, it is much much better than any transcoder.
the target size is missing 200mb, so i would like to know how to do to increase the size, to make sure it uses all my DVD space?
is there a way, to increase the pass from 2x to 3x(or even 4x).time is not a factor.
thanks to all the guys who develop (free) softwares!

It is adjustable -- but be careful, getting too big is a lot worse than a little small, and 200MB isn't enough to make a noticable improvement in your output quality.
Look in the "Settings" Sticky in the DVD-RB forum... search for "TargetSectors"

what is the HC encoder ? is it better from the cce and where to i set it on the rebuilder ? can it improve the time of the process ?

It is a very good freeware encoder. It is close to CCE quality, but it is debatable which is better. It is slower than CCE. The download link is included in the REBUILDER.TXT file that comes with every copy of DVD-RB.
You can get it right here on Doom9 (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Encoders/MPEG2/HC_012_total.zip). There is a very informative thread about it in the Doom9 forum under the "Encoders" section.

it is much better than CEE, ok! I didnt try CEE, so I do not know, but at least it doesnt cost 59$ and it works, whn my CEE free download I can not even set it up correctly.
HC is slow, if I let it runs during the night, 8.5 hours for best quality sitting is perfect for me.
good job!great encoder!
