Hi to all.....

It's been a while since i posted in this forum......

I would like to ask you a common question that will help me a lot.....
---------------------------------------------------------------------

I have the movie "2046" which i love and i want to make a backup ;)

I don't have the luxury of time to use dvd2dvdr with CCE so i went for DVDshrink ......

Using Re-author and by removing all useless audio streams/subtitles the compression rate is aprox. 85.9%.

Picture quality is very important to me cause 99% of times i watch movies from my projector and "2046" is a very difficult movie with lots of "blacks"......

THE QUESTION

Is 85.9% acceptable for good picture quality or should i use another proggy (in the worst scenario dvd2dvdr) ?

Thank you all in advance ... !!!!

P.S. I also tried to cut the end titles in order to gain space but it doesn't have any  .... weird kind of movie

just a fairy tale:

once upon a time a film shrinked to 80%, it was fantastic and beautifull and it meeted a film shrinked to 70, it was beautifull and sharp.

Do you want to know the final:

so...

the son, a film at 60% was even better.

Try yourself ! You are the only judge for "your" quality !!!:sly:

If you love this movie and your probably going to watch it numerous times, go with the best quality you can, DVD2DVDR.
Even better, keep 100% quality and put it on 2 disks with DVDFab.
I have very good video equipment and transcoder imperfections drive me crazy. (My wife and friends watch the same movies and see none of these imperfections).

Or just du a 1:1 copy with a DVD+R DL. Then the quality of the copy will be just like the original. Unaltered.

All you need to copy 1:1 is DVD Decrypter. . . and a DL burner and DL disc, of course.

DVD+R DL is more expensive, yet they are cheaper than $10, so for a backup of a movie so important to you, it should be worth it.

once upon a time a poster asked a question...... then another poster thought about answering without really answering..... just posting....That's not fair! buzzqw told you that it might be different from movie to movie and you can never tell, so you should give it a try and see if you like it. That's the best and most common answer if you're asking questions like "is xy good quality, or should I use yz"

IMO I like backups down to 70%, but I've also done 60% on some "Friends" DVDs because I liked less DVDs better than higher quality in the case of a tv show.

Some people don't even like original DVDs because of the visible artefacts, other people wouldn't notice a 60% shrink on a projector - so there is no other answer than: Try it, and see what you think!

Oy vay! What is going on here?

The question is legitimate.

Here's (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45129) something which might help you. The ratio is not all that important, the video's bitrate is.

Regards
