A way to change max key frame interval.

AutoGK always sets it at 300. I want to set it to 30, so that I can split the result at one second increments.

Thanks for a great program.

Does it set it to 300 even for PAL material?

setting 250 for pal or 300 for others isn't a big matter.
I am in pal land and i had always encoded in default key frame interval, say 300.

Not a problem.

And for 30... chop few second before and next chop again before. Better to have more movie per trunk then a gap.

For most films 300 is fine. Occaisonally I have something where I need to split it more precisely. 10 seconds won't do it.

just a note, rarely a key frame is inserted only every 250 or 300. XviD/DivX had the scene detection features. Whenever the bitrate/scenes need a I frames it is inserted.

In my experience i hadn't cut more then 3 or 4 sec.

no, its 10 sec and depending on a framerate

In my opinion is better permit user in hidden option to choose the number of frame before a keyframe (example 50 or 100....).
Obvious, if is necessary program must insert a keyframe before the parametre that user have choosed.
If movie need in that moment a keyframe every 40 frame for example the program must set this also if have choosed higher, but if movie is sufficient a keyframe of 100 the program must respect user choice.
This decision in interesting for me when user want cut in the exact time the movie using virtualdub without repeat the big range from previous keyframe to next keyframe (keyframe equal 200 = 100/25 = 8 seconds!!) Lots repeated frames.

I don't really understand this obsession of cutting the movie just in one right moment. Scene detection mechanism of a codec works usually pretty well already.

Bah! All this keyframes discussion is BS. The codec inserts a keyframe at every scene change AND if a scene is longer than framerate*10 frames it will force another one.
So i cant see the problem in cutting files at all.

Also, this isn't really what AutoGK should be about, is it?

Just to make it clear why I want more precise key frame intervals:
I have a video with someone speaking for awhile. I want to be able to cut the video in between sentences. Since there isn't a scene change between sentences it is unlikely that a key frame will show up in the right place if the interval is 300 frames (about 10 seconds).

I wouldn't think AutoGK is suited or geared towards this type of advanced stuff. Time to learn Gordian Knot! :)
