My internsl CD burner/reader / DVD reader died. I have a Compaq laptop. I want to get a new burner that will read as well (not a stand-alone) and is external. Also, is a "pure" external better or an internal in a USB extension box? I have heard Nero has problems with externals.

Any advice?

Thanks

There is no such thing as a "pure" external recorder. They're just normal internal drives in an external box. Just get a NEC 16X DVDRW and a USB2 box and you'll have an excellent external recorder that works fine. It's what I do for my laptop.

Older versions of Nero used to lose contact with external drives if an error occured. I never have that problem on newer versions.

I just got a LG 5160D, external burner, not an internal one in a box, well LG do that before hand ;)

Its basically the same thing, but seeing as the price was the same for me, i went with the external kit from LG.

No problems yet with Nero 6 (latest one)
