Single layer backup problems

I've been able to successfully backup a number of single layer dvd's without any problems. I'm using the most current version of DVDDecrypter in file mode, then burn with Nero. Recently I've had a couple of problems. One movie (an old Godzilla installment) seems to backup just fine, but when I put the copy in the standalone player, the main menue comes up for a split second, then immediately goes to a black screen. Any ideas about what is going on with this one?

Another movie has read errors immediately using DVD Decrypter, and can't be read despite repeated retries. The original plays fine in the standalone.

Sounds like it could be a bad burn/media. Have you changed your brand of media? d/l cdheck and check your burn. You can get it here

Thanks for your reply tigerman. Perhaps I was unclear, DVDDecrypter shows a read error when accessing the original, so I haven't been able to burn the backup yet.

Can you post what the error is ? Does the error come while ripping or are you not able to access the dvd at all ?

Right now I'm at work, but I will post the exact error message when I get a chance. I'm not able to access the DVD at all, the error message gives me the three choices (abort, retry, ignore), but won't bring up the file structure of the disc despite repeatedly trying retry and ignore ... But the disc plays fine otherwise.

Ok, your original post talks about two completely separate issues. One is a bad copy you made that doesn't play right on a standalone player, and the other issue is you can't even read an original disc using dvd decryptor.
Seems like only the second one is being addressed now, so I'll move this thread to where it belongs (the dvd decrypting forum).

CDcheck checks DVD, too, for sure, but only data DVDs. Can you check DVD movies burned on a home burner or the ones that are commercially available?

You can check a dvd that has no copy protection but you can't check a dvd that has copy protection on it.
