Another "newbie" question. I've got hold of a couple of films on DVD-R recently which "flicker" when playing back on my TV. They look fine when played on my PC through the monitor, but have a noticeable flicker when played through my TV. Now my TV system is PAL but it is NTSC compatible, as is my DVD player (plays back multi-region). I have bought discs from the U.S. before and they play back beautifully, no flicker at all. However these two discs I've got recently have a noticeable flicker, particularly when there's movement on the screen - a person walking across the screen appears jerky.
I'm assuming that it's something to do with framerate, and my question is whether I can fix it easily and with little loss of quality. I've attached some stats below from PowerDVD which may be useful. I tried extracting a section of one of the discs to MPEG and then converting it to PAL in the wonderful Womble MPEG Video Wizard, but it looks even worse.
I'm confused as to why these discs won't play back properly whereas normal original NTSC ones will play back fine - like I said, I assume it's something to do with the way they've been encoded in terms of frame rate, but if anyone can offer an opinion or guide me to a fix, I'd be grateful. I've had a search through the forums but couldn't see anyone with the same problem. If there's a way of posting more useful/specific stats on the source material, please let me know and I'll post them.
Thanks in advance!
