Slow encoding with Dr.Divx.

Well when trying to convert an Xvid to Divx using Dr.Divx it seems to be taking a long time, Im simply clicking on the file > selecting encode with dr. divx and pressing next until encoding begins.

Its speed is 5.5 frames/second and takes approx 7 hours.

Any idea why this is such a slow process, especially since the only reason im converting it is because i want to change the audio from AC3 to mp3.

Is their an Easier way to do this or faster..

I have a P3 1Ghz 512 Ram 120Gig Drive with 80% free space.

Man, you are in serious trouble if you need to do that just to make changes to audio track. I would just demux audio, recompress it to desired mp3 and then mux it again with VirtualDub.
But maybe your plans are to transcode audio AND to transcode XviD to DivX with lower bitrate (you have 2 CDs and you want just a single one)? Otherwise transcoding from one codec to another with higher bitrate won't give you any quality increase - compression always makes lower results and not vice versa.

All other issues aside, a 1Ghz PIII is not exactly a powerhouse when it comes to video encoding.

Using all of xvid's higher powered things VHQ4 qpel GMC adaptive Quant trellis I can with a script in avisynth fed through vdub mod

So using this as a comparission to his aparent dr. divx problem..maybe it is a problem with dr. divx being slow or perhaps it has to do more with his divx settings. if he's using the slowest encoding more then it will probably max out at 6fps. with the new higgsboson it'll go at like 1fps at the best quality mode.

Use a better computer or less quality settings if your going for more speed. Else deal with it. I will always sacrifice speed if I can get better quality encodes.

Now if you could explain about a way to go about doing the mux and all i would happily do it if its faster. Because I dont want to convert the video since the xvids work its just the audio that doesnt because of the AC3 Thanks in advance
