Hi-

I thought it might be useful to collect the guides available for these 2 apps in one place. To begin, on this site are a number of guides written by Doom9:

DivX Digest has an AutoGK Guide (http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/autogk.html).

I welcome submission of other guides that Doom9 members have written, even if posted before. The guides don't have to be in English, as the majority of the Doom9 members don't have English as their first language. As said before, it might be useful to collect them in one place. Welcome also are comments and suggestions about the guides, with the aim of improving them. Comments are especially welcome from those new to this site and new to video encoding. Something that may seem obvious to those of us more experienced at video encoding might be a major stumbling block for the rookies among us. If you do submit a guide, please be careful to check that there are no references to warez, or links to warez sites, within the guide. We've had this problem before. Thanks for reading.

Actually, it is my own work written in German. Format is HTML or for offline reading PDF.

The guide covers standard Gordian Knot procedure and some things beyond: GUIs for BeSweet, Subrip subtitle ripping, AAC audio (using AVI-Mux GUI or mkvmerge), manual file splitting. Currently I'm putting together a chapter about GKnot and anamorphic MPEG4.
The emphasis is always rather on giving background info than only listing all the necessary steps.
There's also a discussion thread on the German Doom9/Gleitz board (http://forum.gleitz.info/showthread.php?t=14392).

Hi manono, I was having a look at the GK xvid guide but I'm afraid is outdated, there's no correspondence betwwen the pictures in the guide and the actual version of GK..
It's really tough to follow it in this way...

At the moment the HELP in AutoGK explains how to set up DVDdecrypter to rip DVD's.

Are there any plans to change the HELP to explain how to use DVDFab Decrypter as DVDdecrypter has stopped development?

There are no settings in DVDFab Decrypter...
There is no need for a guide...
Just rip the disk and open the main movie IFO, in AutoGK...

I do not know if it is appropriate to post here, in this sticky thread, but I have a question about one of the quides. Since I do not want to bother Doom9 with a mail I decided that it would be best to post here.

My question involves the audio encoding recommandation change in the quide for Xvid. Some years ago, for Acid -L -3db -s surround2 -c normal was recommended in the guide, for Lame some other preset. I was wondering why this has changed to -c normal in the recent guide. (I also think Lame settings have changed, haven't they?).

I would like to ask something about the values of this window:

Could someone explain me how gknot count the firts value which is 0,197 in this picture?
I guess it is from number of frames for the entire movie, number of pixels in a single frame and bitrate of video or size of video.
When I tried to find the counting process I had no luck.

In words: the average amount of bits available for a single pixel.

That was the formula I tried secondly.
But I never got correct result, which was displayed by GKnot.

During the night in sleeping, I realized why.
I was dumb a little bit. :cool:

Video size in bits, but GKnot count it in byte.
I forget to change byte to bit. :confused:

Just drop in to say thanks for this wonderful tool. I recently tried to figure out the aspect ratio involving cropping and resizing. A search came up so many articles and calculators, I am afraid to say that none of the others can beat GK, which has a clear and very infomative interface, more inportantly it gives correct aspect ratio after cropping and resizing. many many thanks to len0x.
