some stupid question (what i'm afraid asking til today :))
GOP properties:
motion vectors
Doom9 manual
Then you can configure the range of motion vectors using the Maximum vector range. The option decides how far an object can move between frames and still be recognized. Higher values are better but also degrade performance because a larger area of the picture has to be searched.
What does it mean 'degrades the performance'? slows down encoding or produces more ugly output? My guess is the first.
maximum refernce frames, okay how many frames will be look ahead and behind. My guess higher value helps compressing better slow motion/static scenes, but.. what happens on action heavy case, when the value is high?
maximum gop size: how mutch is the best?
with how many B pictures I'll happy with? With mpeg1/2 we have a custom, to use 2 - but how can be determined what is the best for a given movie?
hank's mpeg2 encoder has a very good feture: autogop. It detects scenes, and does gop parameter decisions after analysing the scene..

Is disabling macroblock partitions affect the output video quality?
Deblocking strength: everywhere is '-2' evangelized/ Whats are the tradeoffs/drawbacks raising or lowering this value. Having it on 'Automatic smooth' or 'Automatic sharp' means the encoder vill calculate the strenght after the 1st pass. but does it mean adaptivity on a GOP basis or whole movie basis when it's 'Atuomatic..'?
If these questions looking irritating (coz' possibly can be seen as a questions of a dumb ass jerk) then I'm sorry.
