I have a Fusion HDTV card by Dvico. I record TV programs, but it does so in it's native tp format and as I have observed there are no other supported converting utilities apart from it's own one. So now I have to convert to an MPEG2 format, then I use DVD Movie Factory to get it to a DVD format. What I need to know is if:

is there any HDTV card that can record to a DVD format so I can skip the process of converting to an MPEG2 format and just burn to a DVD format?

is there anything that can maintain the highest quality after being converted from tp format. REMEMBER the emphasis is on quality. I am sure that when I convert from a tp format to an MPEG2 format that I have a reasonable quality loss (I am fussy and I want no quality loss)

Would another HDTV card do a better job at converting (with a minimal quality loss)than the one I have now? What do I need to look for in the specs of a new HDTV card before I buy one? What brand or model do you think would suit my purpose

you are losing quality down rezzing to DVD from a HDtv file. TP is the same thing as TS.

So what does this mean? What do I need to do to get the best quality recordings into a DVD format?

1) The .tp files FusionHDTV records are compliant, and can be opened by programs that support the format.

2) You can have the FusionHDTV software record directly to mpeg format. Tick 'Capture Native Record' in options. This may be the best option for you.

3) If your final product is going to be DVD, record the SD channels rather than the HD ones. Doom9.org has a conversion guide to lossless conversion to DVD - it's not easy though.
