yes i was curious about the advanced settings' new feature for the "output format"? we have a choice of avi or divx? i thought divx files are avi anyways?

does this mean i could choose xvid for my codec but divx for my "output format"? please clear this up for my newbie simpleton mind!

also in this new version's info it states something about "added ability to select 1:1 PAR in hidden options to allow anamorphic encoding"

im lost on this, the faq's are confusin...seems most movies i get are anamorphic...but how do i make sure my movie is indeed anamorphic?

ive seen anamorphic aspect ratios at 1.81:1, 2.35:1...so should i just choose 1:1 for these movies?

See Announcing DivX Fusion and the DivX Media Format (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88988).

..."added ability to select 1:1 PAR..." im lost on this, the faq's are confusin...seems most movies i get are anamorphic...but how do i make sure my movie is indeed anamorphic?.... PC monitors have square pixels, 1024x768 is a 4:3 aspect ratio. AVI files were designed for PC playback, and usually have square pixels, also.

DVDs, on the other hand, do NOT have square pixels. They will have a Display Aspect Ratio (DAR) of either 16:9 or 4:3, and have a fixed resolution of either 720x480 if NTSC, or 720x576 if PAL. Because there are only two possible DARs, DVD video streams contain a a variety of sizes of letterboxing or pillarboxing to reach other aspect ratios when the player is set to the right DAR. From the perspective of square pixel PC monitors, ALL DVDs are anamorphic, as they need to be resized to square pixels at some point.

AGK will normally resize DVDs to square pixels, for standard playback on PCs or standalone players that expect square pixels.

Some players can be set to resize to 4:3 or 16:9 on playback, so that no resizing need be done prior to encoding.

Some players will look for an aspect ratio flag in the container, as well.

Yes.
