Interlace effects

If I encode using Xvid and see interlace effects on output file on PC (realplayer) will I see this on standalone DVD player/TV? I've read that it won't. Why do I see the interlace effects in output file and not input file (in DGIndex)? I made several multi-pass encoded files (w/different brates) all with same effect. Not sure what Xvid version I'm using: I have the latest K-lite full codec package and ffdshow codecs.

Kick me if I'm wrong, but I think you'd need to keep the full, original PAL or NTSC resolution and use XviD's interlacing mode in order to keep the fields intact. Otherwise artefacts should be visible on the TV screen, too.

I don't believe in codec packs. To many ppl seem to have problems with them. IMO install a codec only when/if it's needed. I would uninstall the K-lite codec pack and install the latest version of xvid(I use Koepi's build). Are the so called interlaced effects, you're seeing, lines running horizontally kind of like a stairstep effect and are they there all the time or only in certain scenes. Tv traditionally uses interlaced video.

I can play Xvid/DivX in real player no problem.
