My question is simple and straightforward. I just bought a Philips DVD Player which supports DivX/XviD/MPEG4 and plays most titles FLAWLESSLY with the exception of any that use QPEL. I like the fact that I can fit 6 full length movies on one 4.5G DVD and 11 on an 8.5G DVD9 of course. It's just that I wonder if it is possible for the Philips player to display subtitles on DivX/XviD movies and if so, what would you guys recommend to me as the least painsome way?
thanks for the help :)

hi and welcome to the forum,
the least painfull way to use subtitles with your divx/xvid movies is of course vobsub, which basically uses the original subtitle bitmaps...
anyway, i highly doubt your player supports it... actually i would recommend you check the manual of the device to see if and if so, which kinds of subtitles it supports, everything else would be a wild guessing game an pretty pointless...

@c4p0ne:
If you tell us the model of your Philips player, we can give more information.
Anyway, only guessing that you got the Philips DVP 630 or 642, the player supports srt external subtitles (and other extensions, that I forgot).
I recomend to put the films in diferents folders, and the subtitles with the same name as the movie, example:
Movie.avi
Movie.srt
That sholud work!
P.S.: 6 full movies on a single layer DVD!!!???? :scared: My God!! you don't care about quality, do you?

hehe, quality is important but so is convinience. I usually don't "really" keep 6 on a SL Disc unless they're short like under an hour/half. Usually it's more like "3" on an SL and 6 or 7 on a DL. :)
Anyway, thanks for that chunk of information 'bout the Philips player, and yes it IS a DVP630 model. In fact i'm gonna check to see if it works like that right now!!!
Thanks again.
