@jdobbs,

Suggestion:
1. Is that possible to add the log file at the working directory even the process success or fail on some errors.
I will be better if the log also contains all information about the setting.
I think it will be useful for error reporting and debugging.

2. Is that possible to add "free-space warning" ?
Sometimes people geeting so excited so they forget about free disk space and the result is got error :
"Disk full Error" in the morning :)

Question:
1. Is that good idea (in your experiences) to encode the main movie in about ~50% of the original,
as you know, most of today's dvd contains lots of extra. (I use CCE-SP as the encoder).

2. Is there any special treatment for the menu ? Is that possible to keep the menu without compression ?

3. How near will the One-Pass VBR (QPV) hit the target ?
I did rebuild Bourne Indentity Ext Edition, R1 last night and the final result size is 4,216,532KB (4.02GB),
I think I've got undersized result if I expect the target near ~4,571,724KB (4.35GB).
Is there any hidden option to tweak this issue ?

4. If you don't mind, could you please tell me about the "Dinamically Assign Cell Bitrates".
What does it mean ? And How does it work ?

5. Speaking of DVD-RB and CCE-SP Encoder.
Which mode of encoding do you prefer if my goal is to get the better quality ?
One-pass VBR (QPV) or Multi-pass VBR ?

Thank you.

http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/

There's the homepage, theres alot of extra tools and FAQs answered there.

The freespace warning would be,bloat....for when the program comes out of beta, but the underdsize varies because RB can only deal with whole VOBs and those vary per disc as well.

Good Luck!

One-pass VBR (QPV) or Multi-pass VBR ? 1. The level of compression that will keep good quality varies from disc to disc, but generally 50% is fine when using CCE. Remember that 50% of an 8Mbs encoded original disc is better than 65% of one that was encoded at at 6Mbs...

2. In DVD-RB right now, all menus are kept as-is and are not compressed. Future Pro versions will have compression of menus as an option.

3. The nature of OPV makes it difficult to hit exactly. For example you might get a disc that is 4.02GB that would be oversized (say 4.5GB) if you improved the Q value by only one point... Normally you will see OPV encodes at about 4.2 - 4.4GB, but they can drop sometimes.

4. "Dynamically Assign Cell Bitrates" uses the PREPARE phase's scan through the source files as a "first pass" and sets rates for each segment based upon what it finds. It should always be left on. I will eventually remove it as an option (it was added during beta testing) as I can think of no time you'd want it turned off.

5. There's a lot of debate there. VBR is a sure bet... but in many cases OPV will do just as well.

To expand on #4:

"Dynamically Assign Cell Bitrates" makes DVD-RB act more like DVD-Shrink in that it will reduce everything by the same % of their original size\bitrate. When turned off everything gets the same bitrate, regardless of their original size/bitrate.

Thank you for the explaination.

I'll use RB more carefully :)

Thank you.

That one hit my wife two nights ago, only there was no warning in the morning. I then tried it and it worked fine. Then she ran another job later, and saw the message briefly, and it disappeared.

So in a nutshell, something seems to be wrong with the process that gives the message. Although it would be nice for something to check for free disk space, I'd be satisfied if, when it runs out of space, it simply has an "abort, retry" set of buttons. That way I can clear the disk myself.

In the mean time, it just stops part way done with no explanation of why and with nothing running.

This is with the Professional edition RC2.

One nice adition to DVDRB would be the ability to make selected subtitles and/or audiolanguages autostart at least in "movie only mode".

what do you mean by autostart? when you insert the disc in the player, you want a different language?

Eheh yes. I´m from Portugal and i prefer the original language (english with portuguese subtitles) but the kids prefer the dubbed language without subtitles in most animation movies.

What i would like to do with DVD-RB is what is possible to do with DVD2DVD-R. Select main movie, several audio languages, several subtitles and force autostart in my prefered audio/subtiles for that movie.

This way i can force the behaviour of the DVD's without relying on DVD's player preferences, because depending of the kind of movie, the selections are diferent.
