Maximum size of video file to download?

I know this is a vague question, as it always depends on content. But OTOH, there always is a limit to how much one is willing download.
Imagine it´s a video clip someone created, let´s say about 5 minutes in lenght, with 640x480 resolution.

How much are you willing to download, considering your bandwith?

5, 10, 20, 50MB? How about 5MB, 700MB, 4.4GB, no-limit?

I don't care how big a video is, as long as the compression and content is reasonable.

Bandwith is variable. Currently I have 2 Mbit/sec connection in caffe.
I downloaded some highres WMV clips, for testing purposes, length was about 150 MB average.

No limit, for sure. If I will see something like "genuine landing of E.T." I will download it immediately, even if it will fit only on double sided, double layer DVD :D

I have 1.5mbit line and as soon a I get another nick an router I'll have two1.5mbit lines cause of my dual ip from my isp :)

really depends on the content. Now not even talking about the download, but the size on disk, for comedy stuff i am willing to sacrify far less space than for a "worthy" movie..

When talking about downloads it is of course more difficult because you probably can't know what line speeds your customers typically have. But for DSL/Cable people i wouldn't worry about that too much ..as long as it's not in the DVD bitrate range i guess most ppl will not see the size as a real problem if they expect the content worth the time to watch.

Believe it nor not, there are people with dial-up modems. And I´m not talking about full movies.

I´m curious as to what the overall result is. Till now it´s more or less as I expected.

i'm on cable, but i've got a 1GB per month limit (well, it's less than a gig - it's a marketing gig, which is actually 1/1.024 gigs), so i have to ration what i download, or i run out of megs and get speed-limited to less-than-dialup speed (20kbps). right now i'm on dialup speed. grr. no fun.

so if a clip's worth downloading, i'll get it in the best quality available, but the decision of whether to download or not is one i spend a lot of time umming an aahing over.

i chose <50, but it's only a guess.

I don't have HDTV where I live (except via satellite), and they don't plan to have HDTV here until the FCC forces them to. If I want to watch one of my favorite shows in HDTV, I have to download it off the net. So I've downloaded 10G before just to see a network TV show in HDTV, then deleted it after watching. My account is unlimited (limited strictly by bitrate), so it doesn't matter. I pay the same thing for 300G per month as 3G. I'd prefer to watch HDTV "live", but I'm not about to pay for satellite when it should be broadcast over the air (and is to the east, south, and west of me).

I have internet for $0.10 per megabyte of bandwidth, but I'm always download video with best quality. I think if somebody wants to download some video - he will not look at file size.

Woah, only 1GB?! And to think there's people complaining over here about our "third world" 512kb/s ADSL with only 8GB cap's. Or do you just have like the uber-cheap package or something?
hehe well i am 256k adsl but 300mb limit and then slowed to 56k(dialup in other words) and pay no more, telstra(main telco here) actually makes you pay for every meg over on a similar account ,so hows that for bad ?
why such a limited account ? its cheap, infact slightly cheaper than my dialup account was, plus i dont pay call costs of course so am saving money. :)
while 1 freind has a 1500kbs account with 15gb per month before slow down to dialup speed but he pays 3 times as much for that.
i know atleast 2 isp's are rolling out dslam2's(8000kbs max download speed) here but the accounts are damn expensive and quite a lot of my freinds and i simply do not need that kind of speed.

I can only use on though atm ;_;
but I have a 10gig "limit"
they don'teven charge me for overage on hte 12 of last month I had used 704% of my plan
and it;s only $24CAD
but telus has hteh monoploy over her pretty much so I guess it doesn't bother them to much

I dont care about filesize coz I have a 2mbit connection without limit !!!

Though in my 56k dial-up times I downloaded no videos at all... :\
