Ifoedit Bug

Hi,

I tried to do a movie only backup of "the incredibles" DVD.

I keep ONLY the angle2, the audio in Italian Language and the Italian subtitle.
In the higher part of the attach file you can see how I configured Ifoedit for the strip.

After the strip processing I try to play it with powerDvd/winDVD and the final result is perfect. Only one angle, only audio and one subtitle.

So i burn it on a DVD-R, and my standalone DVD shows subtitle in ENGLISH. But why?? I remove it. I keep only one the Italian subtitle.

In the lower part of the attach file, you can see that subrip finds two subtitles. In fact the first is in ENGLISH, and the second in ITALIAN.

Any suggestion? Is it a Ifoedit's bug?

Now I'm sure:
if you do a "movie only" ripping with IFoedit is impossible remove the first subtitle. In fact the subtitle is removed in the IFO file, but not in the VOB file.

I can say this because my standalone and Subrip found the first subtitle (that I have unchecked in the strip streams options).

Perhaps try to strip with something like VobBlanker or even DVD Shrink. You should end up with 2 streams:

1. English - 0Mb (stripped) - really just a placeholder
2. Italian - full stream

I have actually found that IfoEdit doesn't like to kill things entirely, too (eg stripping all VOBIDs out of a VTS - it wont do it). There is an extensive IfoEdit bug thread in this forum that you can refer to. Don't know when Derrow is going to fix them.

I tried with DVD Shrink and it is PERFECT. I avoid it because I was thinking that it was a transcode program.

Very handy for simple stripping when you want do get job done quickly with minimum of fuss. Great for easy ISO creation too.

@zacoz - You might like to look at PgcEdit's interface to mkisofs for ISO creation. See here (http://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?link=735) for why.

Am I correct in thinking if using DVDShrink (for shrinking) then I should output DVD files to Hard Drive Folder, then run these through PCGEdit (and mkisofs) to build the ISO.

May need to reduce DVDShrink target size slightly to allow for any increase by PCGEdit.

Yes, that is what I do. You will find the increase, if any, is maybe 100k all up. NOt worth worrying about, especially considering DVD Shrink's default output size is 4464Mb, which is well less than 4482Mb for a +R and 4488Mb for a -R.
