I think it would be a good idea to create an own section for the different h264 codecs (x264, ateme,...).It's the popular "new standard" (h.264 + aac in .mp4), so I think it would be nice to have a real h.264 section

just my 2 cents

take a look here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87241

h.264 + aac in .mp4uhoh.. you're trying to mess up the forum. aac encoding = audio encoding, mp4 muxing = container forum. You can use AAC in AVI, or Matroska, and you can put all kinds of MPEG-4 video into an MP4, not just AVC (that is by the way the official term.. H.264 is a legacy term).

yeah... i know...
I just wanted to point out that most people seem to aim at the combination of aac and h.264 in an mp4 container when looking for something to replace divx/xvid/any mpeg4 codec + mp3 audio in an avi container or the mpeg 2 + ac3 combination found on current dvds
--> it would be a nifty thing to have a section dedicated to the h.264 codecs (instead of the "other codecs" part of the forum)

...ich bin doch nicht blöd ;)

I agree, the h.264 codecs are popular enough to deserve separate section, and this doesn't necessarily lead to more sub-forums, imo the xvid and divx sub-forums could be merged into a common mpeg4 ASP section (and the divx section doesn't have too much traffic nowadays anyway).

hehe, ok...
let's replace "most people" with "hardware manufacturers"
