Hi there!!!

First of all… as usuall… forgive my English (I’m portuguese :))

Finally I decided to publish the first public release of Rebuilder’s Matrix Editor.

The program is quite simple and I think that you won’t have any problem working with it.
Just extract the ZIP file into you Rebuilder’s folder. I will have something like:

Drive:\xxxxxxx\Rebuilder Folder\MatrixEditor

You may extract the files into some other place but be sure that you point the path to Rebuilder’s Matrix folder when asked to.

The objective of this program is to allow users to create their own matrices or edit the ones that the Editor has by default as well as get some information about the existing matrices.

When you create one “custom” Matrix it will be putted into Rebuilder’s Matrix folder allowing you to use it inside Rebuilder (I’m talking about the PRO versions here… if you don’t have it… donate :)).

Anyway… as I said I think this program is quite simple so I won’t explain how it works… it’s a surprise :)

So… if you have any trouble or find any bug or even suggest any improvement just submit it on this thread.

Version 0.1.6

Changelog:

* Now it can import Matrices from .txt files (as long as the files have spaces between the values and they can't have blank lines)

* New languages: German (thanks Rockby!), French (thanks SAPSTAR!) and Italian (Thanks Rebuman!)

* The Matrices' description/info are also translated.

* The custom matrices' description/info is saved - on the previous version if the user pressed the button "Restore Default Matrices" the info of the custom matrices (created by user) would be lost... not anymore - This fix is not retro-compatible, so you must save a copy of you custom descriptions so you can re-insert them after update!!!

* Fix a (stupid) error - after creating or editing a Matrix it could only be saved once from the editing/creating dialog - my thanks to Rockby to point this out.

* Added a button on Languages dialog with the name "Update Languages" - that's what it does and you must click it to have access to the new languages.

* Dragongodz's "QuEnc Lower Bitrate (QLB)" has been updated to version 1.2 - you must click "Restore Default Matrices" under setup window... just don't forget what I said before about the custom matrices' Info.

Version 0.1.7

Changelog:

* Now it can import Matrices from .txt files using "blank spaces", "semicolon" or "comma" separators and it can have blank lines.

* I've included a new matrix made by our friend Rebuman.

* A cosmetical change (Blue style was completly modified).

* I've inserted a code on Setup window to automatically update the Scroll bars that controls the colors... now when you click on the "color squares", the slide bars will "jump" to the correct values to assume the selected color.

I think that's all :)

Version 0.1.8

Changelog:

* Now it can import Matrices from .CQM and .XCM files (my thanks to jdobbs that gave me a big help on this).

* A cosmetical change (Blue style was completly modified... the previous one is now the Default).

* It contains the updated (by jdobbs) Matrices.

I think that's all :)

I approved it, but I immediatly got an error message when trying to launch it.

"Could not Create Destination Folder"

OK

"Runtime Error '76':

Path not found"

OK

program closes.

I extracted just the .exe to the root of my F: drive.

EDIT: D'oh, teachs me to follow directions. Extracting it to my dvd-rb folder eliminates this error, but I still get the 76 error if I don't set the path to a matrix folder and cancel the program.

Rockas
24th March 2005, 00:37
Have you pointed it to the "Rebuilder's Matrix folder" when asked to?

edit: I can fix that error but if you don't point the path to rebuilder's matrix folder... you won't be able to use the matrices you create and/or edit inside Rebuilder unless you mannualy copy it into that folder.

wmansir

It's working now. Still you might want to put a check in to avoid those runtime errors if it isn't in the right place and tell the user where to place the file.

When I ran it from the root of F: I never received any prompts or windows, just the "Can not Create Destination Folder" immediatly after launch.

I'm getting a 404 error on the download. The page you linked in your post is fine. It's the link to the .zip file that is giving the error.

The error messages look fine, but there is some other problem. With everything setup it isn't running at all. I double click the .exe and it doesn't do anything. The process shows up on my task list for a second and then closes. There are no error messages or windows at all.

I tried replacing the old .exe (which was working) and it didn't work. If I start out fresh the program closes immediately after I (a) select the Matrix directory and click apply, or (b) click cancel and then click OK to the error message that states a Matrix directory will be created.

When using custom matrices from other points of the net, eg. Soulhunters or Sharktooth files i get a runtime-error 62.

Seems a problem with missing comments in files.
An autoconvert would be nice.

Definitively better than my portuguese ! ;)

By the way, if you add a language index in the description file, it would be possible to provide a translation for each matrix description !

But if I change the description in the Matrix_Info.ini, it will be changed for all languages, you see what I mean, if there was a section for each language, or anything allowing to switch to a description in the language currently in use.

I've finished the german translation. In the Zip-File you'll find the Matrix_editor.ini and a little update of the Language file.

And there is a litte bug. If I edited a Matrix and then pressed the save Button it will be disabled. If I then change some details, before I closed the Matrix editor I can't save it again.

Are these matrixes used by cce? or by any encoder used?

i ask this because i already have special matrixes in the registry for cce (you can use them from within cce)...not sure if they conflict.

D.
DVD-Rebuilder takes care of that, it can be used with CCE, HC and QuEnc, there is no conflict inside CCE, as the index used is -1 which means custom matrix, the name of the matrix is not passed to CCE.

Can someone point me in the right direction to do some reading on this. I am a basic DVD-RB PRO user that uses CCE. I am interested to know more about what is going on in my backup procedure. If someone wouldn't mind enlightening me, I would appreciate it.

A suggestion and a question.

First could you, in the "Matrices' Description" area of the Installer,
give an approximate number for the Extra Low/ Low / Medium / etc. Matrices.

For example, the "BACH1 by DDogg matrix is used for ultra low bitrate of AROUND 1000. (This is helpful in knowing to use around 1000 bitrate).

I know the title of the Matrix gives some indication for it's use.

Still, it would be helpful IMO if there was an approximate bitrate suggested for each Matrix. What may be considered "Very Low" by me may be considered just "Low" by someone else.

Second, I like the BDVD matrix but it is not DVD compliant and the resulting DVD will not play on one of my standalone DVD players. What in your, (or anyone who cares to make a suggestion) opinion is a comparable Matrix?

I am using it on the "Aviator" and it gives good results.

BTW in doing a search for "Matrix" I keep getting loads of crap on the
movie of the same name.

Regards:)

P.S. I am using DVD-RB v.93.0.2 and I download the Matrix Editor separately.

Well... to be truth with you I rarely use Matrices (usually I stick to the default) and I never tested them all, so I really can't tell you what will be best to the bitrate X and what will be good to a bitrate of Y but... If someone has some info about this I will gladly add it to the Info.

I don't think I fully understand you question (yea... sometimes my english stinks lol) but If you want to make that Matrix full compatible... you an always edit it and change the first Intra value to an 8 (16 -> 8) and save it with another name... then you can run some tests.

I have done as you suggested, and edited the BDVD matrix.
I am running DVD-RB with the edited matrix. I will check it tomorrow
when it is finished. It usually takes about 5 hours to finish.

I will post if it works on all my standalone DVD players, which was my original problem.

The Aviator is a long movie 170 minutes, movie only. Typical bitrate
is approx. 3182Kbs. So the BDVD matrix really made a difference in the apparent quality.

Regards,:)

P.S. Your english is fine.

feedback
30th May 2005, 19:25
Well the resulting DVD, after editing the BDVD matrix, still does not work in one of my standalone DVD players. I used the HC encoder. BTW I don't think it would make any difference with QuEnc.

I used the DEFAULT matrix and encoded again with HC at dc 10 and, of course, it works fine.
In the info. with the BDVD matrix it does say it may not work with some standalones. So, I was alerted to the potential problem.

Just thought that it might work with the change Rockas suggested.

@borgraf
In response to your PM:
Go here http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=24
and download the Rockas Rebuilder Matrix Editor. It contains the BDVD matrix among others. Just be warned that it may not work on some standalone DVD players.

Regards,:)

Well it is supposed to work... as far as I know the only invalid entry is the 16 as first Intra value but I'm not a matrix expert... maybe there's someone out there that can clarify this issue.
Have you tested with CCE? The matrix was made for CCE maybe HC doesn't "interpretate" it the same way!?!?!? Just a thought... as I said, I'm not a Matrix Expert... I just made the "Editor" :)

thanks feedback, I had trouble getting it running that's why I asked. Looks like I dropped it in a wrong folder but it's working now.. so :thanks: also to Rockas for the matrix editor. I'll make a copy of BDVD with the 8 value and test them both :)

feedback

I don't use CCE. I tried the trial version 2.70 and found it no better in terms of quality than QuEnc or HC IMHO. So, I save the money and donate to jdobbs instead and get the PRO version of Rebuilder. ;)

CCE's speed, however was faster. But that is no concern to me as I usually run DVD-RB overnite. Still, with the free encoders it usually only takes about 5 hours to complete a project and that's with a 2.4GHz Celeron processor.

One thing about CCE I didn't like was it's use of memory. That app. is a hog. I have one Gig of memory and that bugger was using most of it. :scared:

Regards, :)

Well... but I think that you could at least use it with QuEnc... I know that the Brazilian Team likes FreeEnc very much... so it may give you different results :D
